This game is not a ""GUN SIMULATOR""

Let me say that again so it's clear: This game is NOT a GUN ""SIMULATOR"". Do not purchase this thinking it is. It does have some detailed mechanics that go deeper into the operation of a firearm than other games do, but to call it a gun simulator would be doing a disservice to firearms, responsible firearm owners, and Wolfire Games.

Receiver 2 is an exercise in focus and zen state.

It is teaching you how to be a Receiver. I'm sure that sounds corny, but let me explain:
Among the first few tapes you could possibly come across are the basic tenets of what makes an efficient Receiver. Your ability to take in your surroundings, your quick reflexes and ability to make quick decisions; all of these are valid. But you must do all this while making sure you make the correct key combinations with little room for error when things do get serious. Run through until it becomes natural. Don't lose focus, but don't focus to the point it slows you down.

The decision paralysis that comes with these seemingly arbitrary buttons are part of the game. Again, this is not a gun simulator. Should something surprise you, and you tap your unholster button and cause an ND on yourself, you have not ingrained that lesson or you've let your mind wander too far. This mechanic would not translate to VR or the range whatsoever; you'd simply unholster your firearm without placing your index finger within the trigger guard or the trigger proper. You have the tactile feel of your entire weapon in the aforementioned examples, but it doesn't really translate well into a mechanic where the game is to keep track of your own actions. Again: This game is not a gun simulator, it's one that teaches you to become a Receiver.

The loss of level is annoying, I admit, but it falls directly in line with the design of the game and its intent. If you got through those past levels on lucky cell RNG, or cautiously going through the level, have you truly mastered that level of the game? If you're truly ready for the next rank, you should be sprinting through those levels. After all, level 1's turrets are unguarded, level 2 has a few armored, and level 3 you start to see drones and ceiling turrets. Surely if you've lost level 4 and deserve to be up there that means you've mastered the past few levels, right? Or did you just scrape on by? I'm not saying I'm up to that level yet. I can only sprint through rank 2 at best, and 3 with preferred weapon. Still, I can tell I've improved since I started. Sure I'll take out an unarmored turret from a safe position, but I'm confident enough to allow a turret to face me so that it freezes for one second so I can pop a shot without it moving - in a direction of my choice, no less.

My only real gripe is the double tap [W] forward sprint. It hasn't killed me yet, but I swear it will.

If you take it as a GAME of focus and concentration, with a sprinkling of realistic gun mechanics, then I have little doubt that you will enjoy this game.

P.S. You don't have to listen to the tapes to pick them up, you can shoot them. The information you're fed doesn't all match up. Read the floppy disks, for god's sake, read the floppy disks. You are being deceived. You are -

A game that I initially greeted with skepticism upon reveal, an attitude I kept up until two weeks before the game's launch.

The way EA was marketing this game made it seem like they wanted to kill this game in the crib. Shananigans such as cutting the presentation for this game at E3/EA Play to give more room for Apex Legends which had only relatively recently come out. (Fun fact, both Respawn Entertainment projects).

It was only two weeks ago when gameplay of actual people started coming out did I realize what I was getting into: A souls-like Star Wars game. From there, the hype skyrocketed.

I will say this: It has not disappointed, in fact, because info was quiet pre-release, there are so many neat surprises that I've run into that only make this game surpass expectations.

- A singleplayer story that is decent, fits the universe, and is interestingly dark compared to most spin-offs.
- Excellent, and I mean *excellent* performances by the voicing cast.
- A soundtrack that never feels out of place for a star wars game, and its all original stuff besides common motifs.
- Challenging combat that rewards you for proficiency.

Jedi: Fallen Order has no right to be this good, and yet it is. Thank you Respawn Entertainment, you have not disappointed.

This is the best Total War game to date, hands down, bar none. This is coming from a former history purist.

To all the history purists on the fence, if you aren't at all into fantasy, then this may not be for you. If you ARE a history purist, think of it this way: Warhammer Fantasy is history on steroids. Its blatantly obvious that The Empire of Man is just a fantasized Holy Roman Empire. Now, what if the monsters of those fairy tales were real? What if we really did need those witch trials, what if the werewolves and vampires truly needed to be feared because they were real?

A game that remains replayable almost a decade later, kept alive by mods and a community too stubborn to die.

Napoleon's single player is still one of spectacle and scale; more so when played with mods such as DarthMod. It is a solid mechanical improvement over Empire, despite its far more restricted setting.

However, it is the game's multiplayer, in the form of the NTW3 mod, that truly makes this game stand out. It is by far the best musket & bayonet strategy experience to date. No other mod — or game for that matter — is better able to simulate the true pace of the battle: Slow, pre-meditated, but with moments of decisiveness.

Tweaked and refined RTS elements that won't surprise many, but the best turn-based side of any total war game to date. The diplomacy, the espionage, and resource management are all fantastically done. While it isn't near the level of Grand Strategy as say a Paradox title, the turn-based changes make your battles MEANINGFUL.

Bonus: More people are becoming interested in Chinese and east Asian history because of this!

It has been years since I grabbed this on recommendation of a friend.

This game still lives rent free in my head as one of the best games I've ever played in my life.
Even when I put it down for months, or years, it still is something I think about and often come back to.

A great game flawed by some release quirks.

Let's get these things out of the way first:
- No ultrawide support :(
- There's no way to disable motion blur as of writing this
- Mouse movement currently feels like there's mouse acceleration/smoothing. It's not that, it's worse; it's a system that tries to emulate an analog stick.
- Public servers are dying during peak hours due to massive waves of people getting off work/classes for the weekend.

Why is this getting a thumbs up then? Because I'm still having fun and I have the darndest feeling that 3 of the 4 issues will be fixed in a patch or resolved on their end. In addition, I've found that hosting a private session has fixed the disconnect issues for me and my friends. The game runs at a fantastic 60 FPS on 1440p at highest settings with a GTX 1080 after updating drivers. Game will run 4k at 60 FPS if volumetric fog is turned down.

If you're into Monster Hunter Games, or think that a third-person action-rpg with a focus on boss fights is interesting, I suggest picking it up. I strongly recommend playing with friends in these first few days, as most people are still focusing on leveling up and are not responding to SOS calls as a result.

In May 2018, Beat Saber launched as an 'Early Access' title.
I remember this game being one of the primary drivers behind my purchase of an HTC Vive, and I purchased the game on day one. I remember struggling with the first versions of the vanilla tracks; I thought expert was near impossible and hard was just challenging enough. I remember the pride I felt when I finally cleared the expert tracks and placed myself in the top 100 during those early months.

At the time of writing, it is currently July 2020. Beat Saber is no longer an early access title, I've moved on to a Valve Index, I don't play as often, and I'm nowhere near the level of those who regularly compete. Still, I can attribute a big chunk of my weight loss in 2019 to this game. I can still launch this game up and be proud that I play expert+ songs as naturally as riding a bike.

The community has weathered any storm that has come its way, and continues to thrive.
No matter what happens, I know for a fact that this game will remain in my mind as one of the definitive VR experiences I've ever had; perhaps one of the definitive overall gaming experiences I've ever taken part in.

In my opinion, this is one of the core titles every VR owner should at least try out. It remains a very good introduction to VR and a great game to play with friends at parties.

Easy to pick-up and learn, and - depending on the difficulty - a pretty decent workout.
