As this is the Beyond Light (no seasons and deluxe rubbish) I thought I would go with this one for the proper lengthy review.

As this dlc is actually horrendous I will start with the very few good things about it. Firstly, the soundtrack thankfully is stelar as always with good emotion and just well done in general! Lastly the “fix” to the graphics is a rather welcome and very noticeable difference. Everything looks sharper and much darker as well as a good balance and polish to everything. It just seems all touched up rather nicely…and that is basically it. I wish I was joking but alas I’m not.

Reminder you are spending over £40 for content to be REMOVED, if you feel that's justified then don't continue to read from this point.

Let be get straight to the point here, Is this DLC worth it? Absolutely NOT! Do not bother, I did not even think that there could be anything worse to Shadowkeep but oh boy they proved me wrong. This is so much worse. Honestly, I would even tell you to get it on sale, like honestly do not bother. They really need to act up fast or else this game is gone, no joke this DLC is that bad.


Let me get into detail what I mean. Firstly, let’s get the elephant in the room out of the way. Yes, sunsetting has happened and yes it has drastically damaged the game. It was all cause of Trials or any small competitive PVP but it has hurt PVE more than PVP as casual PVP (the most played of the PVPs) is unaffected and much worse currently. With sunsetting it has removed over 75% of usable content with BL bringing really only 18% of it new content, the rest is recycled…yes Hawthorns shotgun is still being handed out as is frigging Long shadow. I could really go on but this, unfortunately isn’t the worst part about the game. What makes it funnier is that Shadowkeep content was also sunset, yes Dreambane armour goes poof also.


With sunsetting came, removal of actually payed old content (for the D2 Y1 players) such as a complete ‘just forget about’ Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind and worse yet all old Y1 raids such as Leviathans and Scourge of the Past. All respected planets, apart from Nessus and EDZ (yes, we all know it’s stupid) have also been deleted from the game as well as their respected activities such as strikes. Now this is where you start laughing and Bungie and continue for the rest of the review. The PVP aspects of these planets…have NOT been removed though. So yes your fighting in Mercury as if the planet did not just go poof, it’s still there in PVP bright as day. What gets better is the EDZ map still has the Old Traveler, basically not a whole golf ball that it should be.


Oh boy I really don’t know where to even start here. I guess I can start by not wanting to spoil much with the horrendous story that exists here I’ll just go ahead and say it feels rushed, honestly as if they didn’t have a whole lot of time and had to come up with something quick to make a DLC. We are literally just thrown into it, no explanation, apparently even Zavala is ok with Darkness now (I’m going with the fact that the store pages says this and can say this) no like what are you doing Guardian, no second guessing just sure grab and go. That’s how rushed and little content there currently is in this game and with half the stuff removed it really stands out. If you play the story you can see how bad it is. It got much worse with the Season that started also really shows how bad of a state this game is in, again without spoiling but they really don’t care for character development or making any sense anymore. It honestly feels that they didn’t care for this DLC at all and they just wanted to get something out there.
I do not even want to bother talking about PVP and Gambit it’s just in that much of a state. Stasis is basically a pay to win tool. If you are a free player your going to have the worst time of your life and probably uninstall Destiny 2. If you also have statis it is still just as bad but at least you have it. It really should not be in the game at all or just removed from PVP. Gambit is in just as much mess but the “new” Gambit (basically the gambit before they remove it from the game) is just as bad as it is Gambit Prime really without the special loot. A fast fork fest of a mess.

Beyond Light itself as a whole now has indeed broken the game, yes and they even delayed this…so it was worse, or really, they don’t care. The new powers are broken, literally, breaking most of the game. Just a week in the DLC (in the time of writing this) and the little game that is left is mostly disabled. Witherhoard? Gone due to it one shotting things, 2 strikes are gone due to them no longer working, Moon repeatable bounties were disabled due to exploits, currently one of the new lost sectors is also gone for the same reason and the only TWO existing raids can now be one shot due to the new powers…I mean, I don’t even know what to say anymore. Glitches have been continuously happening be it sound or visual such as characters either disappearing or malfunctioning and it just shows how little they either care or prepared for this. Literally every day for this week something is disabled or broken I just look forward to seeing the new thing broken each day now.

So yes…alas this is worse than Shadowkeep, somehow, both story and how little content as well as how broken the game currently is. There is no point in getting the game and I wish I could say maybe during a sale but alas not even that.
