Darkest dungeon functions as a sidescroller before you trigger an encounter. The game then the game switches to turned based combat. For the most part the game gameplay is basic. You control 1-4 heroes who go room to room by going through a hallway connecting them. Each hero class is unique in their own way and offer differnt set of skills to each party you form with them. Each character devolps quirks depending what they interacted with while in the dungeon, which effects how that spefic hero reacts to dungeon or what there stats are. Quirks can be either negative or positive. Heroes can also contract diseases. Another feature that makes this game amazing is the stress factor. The more a hero goes through dungeons without rest they acumilate more and more stress. At a certain point in which they have a resolve check. There resolve is tested and they either become afflicted or virtuous. Afllictions have a great influence in on a heros actions. For example the can refuse to attack and or change their placement in the party. A hero becoming virtuous gives them a buff.

The art style of Darkest dungeon is fantastic and helps convey the sense of dread and horror of the estate. it has large influences from the lovecraftian universe. The overall tone of the game is dark and the art style helps express that mood. Each of the enemy you can ecounter feel unique and different from one another. The heroes you can use also have a unique flair from each other.

Overall, Darkest Dungeon is a wonderfull game that most people would enjoy.
