This game is awful for the price. I wish I could refund it. I bought it, and then it actually got worse with updates. It has zero greater lore or story, and the combat and challenge that the game is supposed to be carried by is terrible.

The AI director or whatever controls enemy spawns is braindead. missions that are marked as lower elite spawn rates, or higher engagements/difficulties, will often be the opposite of what they are marked as. The time limited shops are stupid and discourage playing the game for more than 1-2 hours at a time. Just got 2-3 new levels? You have to wait for higher tier gear at the shop to see the benefit from it. I could go on and on about how progression in this game feels like it has no reward. Cutscenes and story are trite, redundant, etc.

Oh, and the bugs, like teleporting dogs and other enemies? That's probably a feature for this game now. Crowd control doesn't work either, so it makes stacking a party nigh impossible. Enemies go where they want and do what they want, physics and logic be damned.

"Oh you're a suspected heretic/criminal and we don't trust you. You better prove yourself on these missions!" - Dialogue for the whole game. It sucks to have another terrible Warhammer title like this in 2023. Warhammer & 40k are awesome fantasy worlds, and you'd almost have to try to fail this badly at giving these games some kind of depth.

I'd recommend Dirt Rally to people that like a challenge, and maybe specifically people that have a racing wheel or driving sim rig. The feel of speed and immersion in this game is great, and that's what it has going for it. Dirt Rally 2 is a money pit, but supposedly it fares a little better as a simulator in 2021. The original Dirt Rally fails as a sim, but stands out as a uniquely difficult driving game.

Diving deeper, the biggest constraints of this game lies in its physics. Some corners were cut, and players will be punished for playing this as a realistic sim OR as an arcade style driver. Why? Physics logic in Dirt Rally changes with every traction surface (or in mid air!). And imagine if you were driving in real life, and the determining factor of you taking a turn on a road or flying sideways off of it was directly tied to what gear you were in... You'd be effectively changing realities every time you shifted! And that's exactly the logic of Dirt Rally! And in-game, suspension handling (or maybe gravity?) is also affected somehow by gearing. Your car will seemingly make less contact with the ground in 4th gear than 3rd across bumps and over rises. Crashes and curb checks will also be more disastrous in higher gears.

Another issue is the handling across different surfaces. Flats of medium gravel can be more perilous than an icy downhill section. Rolling resistance either isn't in this game, or just doesn't make any sense. Concepts like mud or dirt resisting a tire as it pushes across it sideways don't seem to exist either. Traction mostly comes down to what gear you are in, and what surface you are on. There seems to be multiple thresholds for loss of control, but they are extremely sudden when you find them. Regaining control after making an error in Dirt Rally is a skill that only comes with a ton of time in the game because it's completely unintuitive. Sometimes, inexplicably, the best thing to do after loss of traction or some other error is to hit the handbrake to recover.

Rear/front weight balance is really important in car handling, and it in many cars it's the premier feature to enjoy and abuse. -Weight balance in Dirt Rally is either wrong or ignored. Most cars just feel like they have the weight of cardboard and are stabilized by shifting and acceleration.

A 600BHP RWD car can't spin the tires from a standstill above 2nd gear on ice or gravel in Dirt Rally. You're constantly punished for trying to utilize higher gears to gain an advantage in anything other than increasing speed after hitting the top of the last gear- even downhill. Again, shifting up usually lowers traction- and at low RPMs or speed just lugs the engine.

We can try to sus out the logic of the physics in Dirt Rally, but I've already wasted enough time here for everyone.

Buy Dirt Rally 2.0 on sale. I think most of the tracks Rally are in 2.0. Skip this game. That's what I'm gonna do

The concept of this game was cool, but like 8 hours in, all the cards are still vague, and the things/experiences that happen to your character are vague, and even your character is vague and everything is vague, and the coolest part of the game (exploring ethereal planes and whatnot) is trapped behind a ton of timers and micromanagement and progression and even the route to progression is vague. Play this game if you like grinding and flipping cards and hitting the pause button constantly.

Haven't gotten into all the expansions for this game, but as far as Hex-based goes, I really like this game. Lot of high fantasy and steampunk themes. The AI can become brutally difficult, and some quests will feel like trying to get a goblin to topple a mountain at times- but most of the gameplay is just smooth. Pretty safe buy on sale. Don't know if I would recommend trying any game like this in multiplayer.

I got my socks wet and didn't have an extra pair, but it didn't really matter when I stared into the demonic void. I'd do it all again if I had to.

10/10 would murder my own countrymen again

**2 YEAR EDIT: UPDATE**

I love this game even though it wants me to suffer.

-BAD THINGS IN SQUAD:

- Desync, server + client lag, game engine performance issues
- It is not uncommon for an entire server to see under 20 FPS during explosions, smoke effects, around constructed materials, while ADSing
- Blinding glare/skylights
- All in-game menus have game-breaking bugs. You OFTEN cannot access supplies to make a base, rearm, see your inventory, mark the map for teammates
- Players can get stuck in vehicle seats, rendering vehicles useless & causing players to have to restart their games (and potentially wait in queue to return to a server)
- Vaulting is hit or miss. You will sometimes just be jumping against an object instead of crossing it
- Tooltips/hints/info are usually broken, slow to appear, or just missing
- The Goose Bay map: a giant, visually painful map with a white filter applied because squad can't really do rain/fog/snow effects
- The Canadian ELCAN gun sight: Minimum zero range: 200 METERS - shoots over everyone under 200 meters with a preposterous trajectory for 5.56
- Vehicles occasionally bug out and become unkillable
- This game ran better in early access and was cheaper, even though I've upgraded my PC since then.

? Is it unreasonable to have a 7700k, liquid cooling, RTX 2080, and expect at least 60fps steadily in game in 2021?

- Every update that introduces new features also introduces new bugs, or brings them back into the game. Indefinitely.
- New players vs old players. Free weekends bring floods of new players into a game that often takes a few hundred hours to hold your own as a GI or Squad leader. Easy to get yelled at and harassed by new recruits as you try to instruct and lead as a veteran player.
- Trolls. A troll in Squad can literally destroy an hour+ long match and is hard to catch/punish before they wreck your team's assets.
- Offworld Industries vs public servers. A never ending conflict of policies and arbitration concerning bans, support, and respect for a player's time and game experience
- Sound bugs. Phantom gunfire. Vehicles making noises when they shouldn't. Sound direction errors.
- Graphics. Stuck in 2015
- Settings. Settings will get reset with updates, and sometimes applying new settings just doesn't work or crashes the game. Mainly with graphics.
- Streaming. Streaming this game is painful. Pacing is already slow, but stream sniping is a huge issue. We could just say that's how this game works, but it's also hard to watch/stream based on the way it runs.

*GOOD THINGS IN SQUAD*:

- Teamwork and communication. It's what this game is made for, and why when it's good- it's really good. Even losing games can be great when you have a functioning squad/team

- Diversity in combat. You get about 8 factions, and all the unique weapons and tactics to go along with them. Insurgents get IEDs and suicide tactics. Modern armies get fancy vehicles and equipment.

- Pacing. Most games are drawn out engagements full of responding to enemy actions and pushing capture points. Respawn timing and ticket/resource pools replicate the sense of your army being larger or just more robust than it really is. The opposite of a Call of Duty game where your soldier seems to have the superpower of rebirth and a small team.

- Impact. There is something really satisfying about the way munitions land. Bullets and explosives ~usually~ make great impacts even though the suppression mechanic is absent or too intense at times.

- Good players. This game really highlights players that are really skilled, but also players with great attitudes and leadership skills. If you can make friends in this game and find good time slots on some servers, you will really have a great time.
