Wether you go ftp or vip probably depends on the way you play it but at the end of the day your gonna have to spend some money on it even if you stay ftp.
If you enjoy the multiplayer content more (Instances, monster play, raids etc) then vip is better but if you're like me and mostly play it single player and only team up with other players for quests now and again then i recommend staying ftp and buying your quest packs whenever they go on sale (they have sales on all the time!).
I now own all of the qp's and got them all on sale and i also got some free when i bought the expansions for the game as well.
I play on the Laurelin server so if you havn't settled on a server yet then you should join it and i could help you out in-game.... once i replace my PSU!
