Gerne wird die Kartoffel als erste Kultur auf Flächen angebaut, die gerade erst gerodet bzw. urbar gemacht worden sind, da man durch die häufigen Hack- und Häufelarbeiten aufkommende Wildkräuter gut in Schach halten kann.
