A refreshing experience in the parkour-FPS genre.

Severed Steel left me in awe after the first hours and managed to surprise me still in the hours after. Mechanically, the game is near perfect. Whereas in the story and overall game time is a bit lacking.

Foreword
For a first game by this game studio it's honestly a very pleasant surprise. You can tell that they've put a lot of effort into making the mechanics work. From wallrunning to doing flips mid-air whilst being in slow-mo as you fill your opponents with virtual lead, it all just transitions so smoothly. Despite that the game feels rather small, with an objective based campaign that can be finished in about roughly 2-3 hours, a new game+ mode that adds another 2-3 hours on it and a firefight mode where you can play around with some of the gear and add (fun/interesting) modifiers to your game in an elimination game mode.

In total it took me just under ten hours to complete the entire game (including the time it took to unlock all the achievements). And don't get me wrong, those ~10 hours were great, however, I did find myself taking a lot of breaks in-between whereas with a lot of games I'd just binge them. I couldn't get myself to do that with Severed Steel due to the high-intensity and repetitive nature of the game.

In short, it's more of a mini-game.
Do you want a quick dopamine fix In the form of a Doom-like shooter with sweet movement mechanics?
This game won't let you down.
Despite that I'd still recommend you to get it on a sale, I personally got this game through a recent Humble Bundle and I think it was worth it at the discount.

Gameplay
The gameplay as aforementioned is nothing short but genius, if anything it's a little bit confusing at the start. There are dolphin dives, wall runs and slides that double as kicks. Besides that you also have a normal kick and of course the slow-mo.
The game sports some introductionary levels to get you accustomed to the basic mechanics of the game, but quickly lets you loose in objective based campaign missions where you end up learning more finer details of the mechanics, such as how kicking an enemy with a shield not only disarms them but also pushes you upwards, or how you can slide on top of carts scattered across some of the levels to name a few..
Despite the repetitive nature of the game, it's details like these that really keep the game fresh. And that's not even mentioning new game+ or firefight mode where you get to play around with different gear, starter weapons and modifiers! I love it so much!

Graphics
The graphics honestly are okay. I think they did a really great job on the voxel-type graphics that they went with in tandem with the neon style 80s graphics, the level design also really works well with this. The special effects are also sublime, especially later when you get access to the paintball modifier, it's a lot of fun having so much eye candy all over the place. It even seems like they've been trying to get the "RTX" effect going on the reflective surfaces and it was actually quite interesting to see that considering I don't own a graphics card that supports RTX, (NVidia GTX 1080,)
There was just one thing I could honestly recount that I wasn't happy about with the graphics and that's the gun texture quality when you are holding a gun, I was sitting at the level spawn with a gun in my hand and it looked rather blurry. I decided to look in my graphics settings to see if I could change that but there were no texture quality settings to be found.. However, to be fair. In this game you probably won't really be looking at your gun anyways, but it's still worth noting.

Soundtrack
The soundtrack is yummy, it blends in really well with the game and really sets the theme for every level. Is it memorable? Probably not, but they definitely managed to get the work with the genre of the game, fast paced, corporate 80s retro.

Price point
I see this game is currently 21 euros (which would estimate at around 23 USD), and I'm gonna be honest, I probably wouldn't get this game for that amount myself, I would say I got this game for about 3 to 4 euros by getting it through the Humble Bundle, however I would say this game would be worth it to me for about 5 to 10 euros. Mainly because of the length of the game. As stated before, everything is superb, except for the length.

Final verdict
This game is honestly a near perfect first release for a game, other than the game length and the story there is really no complaints.
If there's anything I'd like to let the developers know is that I hope they'll make the levels bigger (open) and more interesting.
I couldn't help but imagine how great this game could be if it had grand, open areas such as Mirror's Edge.
.. Now since you've been teasing a second follow-up game to this game..

Anyways, I rate this game 8.5 out of 10 slow-mo flip headshot kills!

Seems like a very good and fun game, but it keeps constantly crashing every 40 to 50 minutes, which makes it infuriating to play. This apparently happens more often. The system I'm running it on a system with a GTX 1080 and an 8th gen i7.

Viking: Battle for Asgard

This game is a must have in every gamer's collection.
As you start your adventure in a near death situation, you are saved by a goddess lady named Freya and become her champion for the sake of some random plot, after that you'll start your quest on what to actually do in a village that seems nearly oblivious to everything that is happening. And after that you'll literally find yourself dying in order to find out the controls.

10/10 Would stop playing within 10 minutes again.

Shelter 2 Review:

Let me start by saying that I've got this game from a Humble Bundle bundle.

After getting my bundle I hadn't touched this game yet, although I had seen it around before.
I was anticipating to play it for a while now and today I finally got around to playing it,
and must I say, it was so worth it.

About Shelter 2:

Shelter 2 isn't an ordinary game, I'd rather describe it as an experience, almost like a movie.
(Including the length of the game)
And I don't mean that in the sense that you won't be doing anything.

In this game you play as the pregnant mother lynx of four kittens,
your goal is to raise them and survive.

The natural events that go around in the life time of a Lynx is what makes this game so good.
It makes you feel how harsh life can be, but how it's meant to be.

Besides that the visuals are glorious, and the soundtrack finishes it off.

Also what's also worth mentioning is that I played this game with a controller,
I think that personally this game would be best played with an xbox one controller as it's really laid back, and more meant to be relaxing.

Regardless I think the game would still be fine to be played with mouse/keyboard.

My playthrough:

As you could probably tell from my recommendation and everything above I am pretty satisfied with the game.
It's relaxing, it generates emotions and does it's job good as an experience.

(No spoilers: )
During my playthrough I was already intrigued at the main menu,
and as soon as I started the game there was a text based intro, leading me into the game.

Once the game started I was given the necessary controls to proceed, you already have all of them at the very start.
But they tell you how the conrtols are once they become relevant. I really liked this as it didn't hold your hand and yet tells you the controls at the right pace.

As you might have noticed from the other reviews around here, your kittens tend to die.
The easiest solution is to just keep the food running, catch enough prey.
It isn't that hard to be candid, you just have to realize it.

The game, as mentioned before, tells you a story, the way it does this is with scenes.
Beautiful scenes.
Good examples are the scene where you name your new born kittens,
the scene where you do what you have to do as a mother Lynx (no spoilers here ;) ),
and the ending scene, which has been merged with the credit roll.

It really all felt as if it fit together perfectly..

I might play it again later when I feel like just relaxing and feeling satisfied with the simplicity of just running around and caring for a little family of Lynx kitties.

TL;DR:

- Cinematic type game.
(Tells a story, some gameplay but repetitive.)

- Short but powerful.
(The game leaves a good impression despite it's short game length.)

- Good combination of visual- and audiostyle.
(Really relaxing and calm.)

- Has decent replayability value, but only over time.
(Like you'd watch a movie again just to relive it.)

- Better played laid back with a controller.
(Personal opinion though.)

- There's a few bugs in the game.
(Minor, non-gamebreaking bugs.)

Thanks for reading my review of Shelter 2,
I hope it was useful and helped you decide on whether or not the game is for you!

The game's really good.

Doesn't lag badly (mentioning this since mah laptop is getting old n' dusty) and the game's also challenging.
A single mission can easilly drain your time as you progress in the campaign.

However it is challenging it's also only one campaign,
and the adds in the game for the expansion sets are a sore in the ey though, and discourage you,
unless you think it's actually worth it.

Furtherwise there's loads of detail in the game,
however I didn't dare to put the graphics any higher in case it would start lagging.
As low graphics already look good, I tested the game with highest settings too, yet that lags for me but that's reasonable,
the game looks amazing but yet it doesn't really bother me as the gameplay ultimatelly makes this up.

Other than the brutal difficulty and the in-game adds for the expansion set 4.5 / 5
