There's an in engine cutscene at the start of the game which consistently crashes for me.

I don't know if there's some issue with the default settings because the game crashes before I can reach the settings menu.

I'm not going to waste hours of my life messing with the configuration file just so I can get to the settings menu.

That's it. I literally can't play the game.

I'm a bit conflicted with Stellaris. It's a really fun game, and one that you can easily sink hundreds of hours into. But it has serious performance issues, and the late game can become outright unplayable. The A.I. is barely able to keep up with the game's complexity, and can easily get stuck in loops where, for instance, they keep opening and closing their borders because border friction is broken. I haven't tried the multiplayer out yet, but I'm not sure that's really a viable fix since you have to get people to commit to hundred hour matches.
I'll still recommend it, but with a lot of warnings.

Always online, even in singleplayer.
