Game is good. Mods are good. Should wait for a sale though.

Crusader Kings 2 is an amazing game. It takes a while to get into, but once you understand it, it is quite enjoyable. You will go around searching for the perfect spouse and try to raise incredibly children. Then the plague will hit and people will die. Then you can take out your frustration by waging holy wars on all the infidel neighbors. All in all it encourages you to be heartless which can be a nice change from real life.

There are also a plethora of mods with some of the being complete overhauls for fantasy settings which is a plus.
