Those who have dared to trudge through the horrors stored beneath the thin layer of cosmic beauty showcased in Peggle Deluxe Level 11-2 know that the idea of a merciful existence is one born out of the naive. The fools at PopCap were fueled by pure, unadulterated hubris, and it blinded them to create this unholy construct, a Promethean endeavor with no other purpose than to burn the souls of those who thought to challenge it. A gross zenith stemmed from mankind's stubbornness, carrying with it an unyielding hatred for everything humanity stands for simply by existing.

7/10. The pumpkin power up's pretty cool.

Multiplayer is maybe the best thing that could ever happen to this game. 93% of all players quit aiming the gun at themselves before it's a blank for realsies this time

I was pretty new to Rivals 1, only coming in around the release of the workshop 4, but I still cannot tell you how gratifying it is to see these games get the audience they deserve so, so well. Finally, I can rest easy knowing one of my favorite game's legacy won't be wasted on super duper ultra ronald mcdonald with obama in it from the steam workshop

R2 is pretty drastically different from the original, finding itself closer to games like P+ with all the new system mechanics pouring in. This unfortunately means I have absolutely no fundamentals to work with because I chose to main Shovel Knight. And despite my incomprehensible groans in VC (if you were here you'd be hearing "IT'S LIKE I'VE NEVER TOUCHED A FIGHTING GAME BEFORE" a lot), there is a lot to like about this game. It feels so airtight and breakneck, and there's always that sense of control that was ever-present in the first game too. All your moves feel intuitive, all the tech rewarding to learn and apply, movement only slightly less euphoric than R1, and character design as sharp as ever. Every character translates really well, and our newcomers in Fleet and Loxodont have me very excited to see newer faces come by. It's obviously not flawless, the current debate against the direction floorhugging is taking the scene giving us an glimpse of that, but I'd be lying if I said Rivals 2 isn't an amazingly well-crafted competitive experience. Even if my W/L ratio during demo week gave me 1-33.

I am a little worried about the more casual side of things. Yes, it's just as important as the competitive spirit, and to say otherwise would just be ignorance. I'm afraid launching with 10 characters, even though all of them are oozing with personality, player expression, and depth, just might not appeal to the casual audience these days. The lack of proper tutorials is also definitely a shame. An official wiki and official video tutorials for every character is appreciated, but Rivals 1 had genuinely helpful and decently in-depth in-game tutorials, which is unfortunately still a bit of a rarity in fighting games these days. I'd really like those back. Competitive is the heart of any fighting game of course, but the casual scene is the lifeblood. They need each other to stay alive.

With that being said, all future characters are going to be free. So maybe I'm just impatient. But for now, if Rivals of Aether II can manage to keep even half of the numbers it's seeing now (IT BEAT COD ON THE CHARTS!!), then I'll be overjoyed. I want more than nothing to see this game thrive, and so far, it is! So let's hope it stays that way.

Yakuza 4, even with its flaws, still stands as a great yakuza game.
The story admittedly got really goofy at times, but it still had its moments. I really liked Saejima's section of the story in particular. All 4 protagonists are really fun to play as (with a bias to akiyama i love him) and its a blast to just run around. Even if they admittedly don't serve much purpose, the rooftop and underground parts of Kamurocho are really cool and I wish they would have brought it back for later games. Also just an extra note, the rain just looks absolutely gorgeous in this particular game. It's just so randomly good looking
Y4 also has a really strong soundtrack, with a nice emphasis on jazz. Give a listen to the panic themes, they're really well done.
And again, finale got kinda goofy a bit, but like, it's the Yakuza 4 finale. It's still hype as hell.
The 2 hour cutscene after you beat Amon where Akiyama and Tanimura get married is really sweet as well. It's kinda weird that the only reason Tanimura's wearing a bridal gown in the box art is because of a hidden cutscene, but whatever. Still sweet. Too bad Tanimura burst into flames and died off-screen afterwards so that we never see him ever again

good game despite all the complaints about the combat, which i honestly didn't find that bad. the unskippable 2 hour make out cutscene with daigo and mine at the end was a bit much for my tastes though

absolutely fantastic narrative but it took me forever to finish it, not just because of the great side stories and minigames but also because the protagonists are distractingly handsome
