The only way you can think this is good is if you've never played any other game in the series that came out prior, because they are all superior in EVERY way.

It falls flat as both a Halo game and an FPS.

(I will try and keep this short and good the good things out of the way first.)

Story:
The good- The only thing interesting is Cortana's Rampancy arc, which no longer matters due to Halo 5's direction. Also, Didact is an interesting villain but handled poorly. Lasky is the only good character from the UNSC.

The bad- it is a cliched "Chosen One" story thanks to a very specific cutscene where Chief finds the Librarian, the UNSC are completely butchered, the once weary, but devoted characters from the previous games that tagged along with Chief are now replaced by a Narcissistic and melodramatic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at Chief every time he does what he does best, saving Humanity. Consequently making Chief's previous missions to stop The Covenant weightless. Because... "Chief won't let us go home."
There is very little reason for the game's new threat "The Storm Covenant" to exist, and the game's main threat "The Prometheans." Have even less reason to exist.

Gameplay:

The good- The Mantis

The bad- Halo Reach's gameplay loop, but in the worst way feasable and more of a COD clone than a Halo game. The reason people hate Sprint in a Halo game because level geometry is designed around that in mind, the previously huge battle landscapes of the past are now gone for more narrow paths to make it easier for the play to traverse while sprinting, even the vehicle sections suffered from this change. The only good vehicle sections that are memorable and benefit from this change are the Mantis sections (both of them), but those are little compared to the many vehicle combat loops of the past.

Ammo is scarce for most weapons and all weapons, yes ALL, chew through ammo quickly, you will be hunting for weapons on the battlefield more than hunting enemies, especially on higher difficulties. Speaking of the enemies, none of them are fun to fight, they walk to the player and shoot, not using cover, and some even teleport to you and insta-kill you.

Multiplayer-

The game's multiplayer was on a steady decline for a whole year until it's eventual death, and very few still play it on MCC. Not much else to it aside from it copying COD's multiplayer loop.

That's only a fraction of why this game is so bad.

This game is very underrated, I know that's saying a lot since this game doesn't follow the Survival Horror format that all the other previous games (Aside from RE4) follow. Not to mention it isn't the least bit scary unless maybe you're squeamish or you haven't been exposed to much scary stuff in your life. However, the gameplay of RE5 cannot be undersold. If you liked RE4, Revelations, or if you're fresh off the remakes, I think this is a good one for you. The gameplay is very similar to RE4, it has improved camera controls, a kickass combat system, and lovely gunplay! Seriously, there are loads of toys to use against foes, not to mention all of them can be upgraded for increased firepower, capacity, etc. The biggest issue people rightfully point out is the Partner ai. I highly recommend playing this game with a friend, even if they're not much of a gamer because the partner ai can sadly be difficult to handle. I'm not gonna rant on that too much, because I've personally found a lot of successful techniques with the ai partner (Sheva, but the same also applies to Chris when you play as her) that I would like to share:

1. When you start the game equip Sheva with a pistol and later shotgun.
2. Once you get 1 of 2 sniper weapons in the beginning chapters, swap out her shotgun with one of snipers. Her aiming is super accurate and will land headshots most of the time, but regardless it will do a lot of damage.
3. After a vehicle section you will unlock a stun rod, swap Sheva's pistol out for that, that way when she is in cover mode she will always have it out. This saves ammo as she ususally blows all of it, but the only ammo she will be using is sniper ammo now that the only other weapon she has to work with is a melee weapon. She will only use her sniper when set to attack mode in most cases.

4. Whenever you need her sniping skills to assist you, just summon her into attack mode and she will go nuts!
5. As you upgrade your weapons, upgrade her sniper as well, that way she will be able to handle most enemies even as they get stronger when the game progresses.
6. Have patients with her and utilize her only when you feel it is necessary, sometimes trial and error is a necessary teacher when utilizing her.
7. Be sure to keep her out of harms way, especially when her health is low as it is very difficult to get to her and vice versa when their are enemies crowding around her.
8. Use encouraging words. When she gives you ammo, press B to thank her and when she saves your life press B as well. (Not actually necessary, just for fun.)

Things I wish I knew on my first playthrough...

1. Most weapons that are unlocked in the shop can also be found in the game's chapters if you look hard enough. There are a few exceptions... like the other two pistols, the stun rod, armor, and secret weapons that are only unlocked by fully upgrading the starter weapons.

2. Spent your money wisely... don't go in the shop and buy the first thing you see and don't upgrade a weapon you won't be using.

3. Look for riches! there are treasures hidden throughout the game that will increase your wealth, so have a keen eye!

4. Have fun!

Hope all of that information helps you!

This game is still a treat to go back and play, the combat is simple, yet satisfying to pull off. The game has many toys and trinkets to buy from the merchant to satisfy every style, the story is very entertaining and doesn't take itself too seriously. However, the game is a little outdated on modern setups. If you have an ultra wide monitor you will have problems with the FOV (The screen is too zoomed in) and by default there is no way to change your aspect ratio, only the game's resolution. I recommend downloading this: https://www.re4hd.com

It's a mod that gives the game a fresh, more polished look like it should have gotten years after it's first release on the GameCube. It updates textures, fixes the aspect ratio to scale with your monitor (from what I can tell) and even adds new or unused content if you can believe that. After installing the game, install the mod, it's simple to setup, just takes awhile to download. Just believe in yourself and have fun! God bless!

I've been playing Halo ever since I was a fetus and I think this is definitely the definitive way to play it. 343 breaded new life into these games.
