Here is a minimally detailed review for Starbound by Chucklefish Studios.

Gameplay:
The gameplay is similar to... you guessed it! Terraria! This doesn't mean the mechanics aren't improved. Starbound uses the mine, create, craft style of gameplay which is hugely successful and for a reason. If something isn't broken, don't fix it, however Chucklefish has done an amazing job of furthering the gameplay, adding in depth farming, resource gathering, more crafting and tons of fun side stories and lore to go along with the interesting story line. There are thousands of planets you can explore each with their own biomes and aliens, as well as native people. Crafting is also more in depth than Terriaria, using pixels and more multi-ingredient recipes keeping the game fun as well as challenging. There are so many more options on how you wish to play the game and npc's have more heart put into them than the traditional blank faced npcs in Terraria. I found that I was spending more time trying to explore and find different locations than I did in Terriaria. And this is just the Beta!

Story:
The Story is a fun addition to a craft and surive game and makes the singleplayer less bleak. I played most of my hours in coop which to me is the most enjoyable but the story makes it so you don't get lost and rightfully so. The story not only adds some structure to the massive environment but helps immerse new players by teaching them how surive and have fun. One of the main qualms I had was the first time I played I starved before getting meat because I explored too much, I wish I learned how to farm and cook alien meat sooner, but that was my own fault for being adventurous.

Graphics/Sound:
You can't expect the best 3D new-gen overclocked Titan graphics, but you can expect a fun not overwhelming mix between retro with some newage graphical designs. This game is made to run flawlessly on all sorts of computers and all the animations I have come across are smooth and fun. I still struggle a little with the combat because the sword arc is not the same as the damage arc for me, but once you get used to it it makes little difference. The art is amazing, as well as all the other alien species, items and environments. The only issue I had was the backgrounds for planets are kind of an eye sore, mixing pink with weird teals that look like they were done in paint, I only wish they were more textured and smoother. And the sounds is amazing. One of the best most exciting soundtracks I've seen in a game of this sort. Totally worth the pre-order.

Replayability:
I havn't beaten the game, not even close, and when I think about it what does that even mean? With thousands of planets and developers promising to keep updating content and this is only the BETA, I think $15 is a steal for the hundred of hours of exciting exploration you can do with friends

The Final Verdict:
I give Starbound a 9/10, apart from some "sketchy" art in the background as well as certain key surival tips not being learned until later in the game, the amazing gameplay, fun graphics, and immersive story and exploration keeps this game as one of the top games in my library.
