On launch, it was a buggy mess with massive server issues.
For months, it was a buggy mess with massive server issues.
For a short while, it was relatively stable, but they progressively rolled out more and more balance changes. For the worse.

Arrowhead, the way you balance the game is tailored to suck out all the fun of this COOPERATIVE game. All the designs are made to be so utterly incomprehensible as to funnel people into singular tactics using low variety loadouts.
What is AH's response? To nerf those few things people enjoy and use, because "too many are using them".

Maybe you should look at the reasons those things are used, why those tactics are employed. Instead of continuing on the path of ruining every single thing about this game.

Edit: Arrowhead really turned the game around in the last 4 months, with a string of balance patches. I wish there was a mixed option for reviews, since this is not a whole-hearted recommendation. But its more good than bad these days. Despite them increasing the amount and price of microtransactions (by lowering the droprate with stealthnerfs), I think they desire my thumbs up. For now...

I wish there was a "meh" option on steam. The core gameplay loop is fun but overly simplistic. For the first few hours things fly forward, you unlock tlnew content and "story" at a rapid pace. But then it all starts slowing down, and after clearing about 1/3 of the map (which is ~70% completion?) the game just... stops. There's nothing more to spend gold on, and very few items/story pieces left to do. In a "number go up" mining game where you eventually disregard the mining aspect to just go down as quickly as possible.
Disappointing when the gameplay loop is so fun.

Pick it up on sale for some braindead fun.

A tight, linear tactical shooter. Don't expect something like XCOM or a grand campaign. Everything is very controlled, from what skills you have access to, and exactly what enemies appear and when. More like gears tactics, but without the grinding or random characters.

Each character has a limited skilltree, which unfortunately has too few interesting abilities. Which could have been fine, but you are only allowed to bring up to 3 characters to a combat (out of 6) so it really limits your tactical options.

Each combat takes place on a premade arena, with certain objectives and twists involved. The game allows you to swap out characters before each combat, listing what enemies (if you've encountered them before) that will be involved. However it doesn't let you know anything about the objectives or terrain! So the choice is blind and quite useless unless you wish to reload.

However the biggest problem is that between each tactical fight, you need to run around in an exploration phase, disarming traps and finding loot. This part of the game is just not good and should have been cut imo. The puzzles are easy, the traps are annoying more than anything.

I have many gripes with this game, but at its core its entertaining. The quality of art, sound and animations is very good, way beyond what I expected from a project of this size. The voice actors are interesting and the announcer gives some well needed showmanship. There are story cutscenes in the game, but I don't feel like that they added much to the experience, other than dragging it out.

A wonderfully stressful co-op experience where you get to devastate the countryside for resources to fuel the Intergalactic Railroad.

The game is just the right length, with each new level introducing new mechanics to screw you over.

Unfortunately undoes all the fun mechanics the original Space Run set in motion. There is a severe reduction in abilities & components, only 1 turret having rotation being the most egregious. Instead of having to manage power, now you have a global resource that gets increased by thrust. This completely ruins the economy of turning off your engines for more scrap.

Worst is that the encounters are no longer handcrafted but an openworld map you are supposed to trek back and forth on, redoing missions to collect crafting components.

Fast and safe? This time it was slow and grindy.

Damn Ubisoft, trying to pull the rug out from under this wonderful game.
Thank you BlueByte for fighting against your overlords, and restoring this game.

Too short and too simplistic. I was looking for a puzzle / resource management game but this game is focused on SPEED and doing things quickly.

This game had so much potential to be good. There has been a lot of love that has gone into this game, but sadly not enough thought. After so many patches, the game is still... not there. The soundtrack, as short as it is, is a banger though. Evokes the exact right emotions.

If you like games like Overcooked, you *may* like this game. Its very simplistic and never gets very far from the beginning.
Most of the time is spent fighting the controls, trying to pick up the right equipment or moving to where you can actually put down equipment.

The game is short, around 2-3 hours of playtime for 3 stars. There is no bonus in score for finishing quickly. If you finish within the timelimit you gain 3 stars.

Pick it up on sale if you really need more coop games, but there are better ones out there.
