Im having a blast with this game! The community makes this game rise above, line battles and following orders all the way! If you don't think thats something you enjoy it might not be for you though. Going lonewolf or not "immersing yourself" and just "playing the game as a game to win" would cause you to miss out on the true potential of this game.

The game has a slight issue with people playing music in VOIP unfortunately though, not too common. However as far as i can tell you can't mute specific people, so one guy can just ruin it for everyone. However its mostly fine, most of voicecoms are people speaking in (poor) posh english or french accents, brilliant stuff really.

Playing this game is way too tedious, making sure you look at most objects to not miss out on anything all the way up to a very disappointing ending. I feel like the games beginning almost presents itself as a game where you get a sense of investigating something at the beginning, but it quickly just becomes go around and press E on as many objects as you can find for a couple of hours meanwhile a narrator presents a generic teenager coming of age story with an under whelming payoff. Theres some background stories about the parents that gets told through the notes and letters you find. But still this is not quite enough to make this game worth the effort to get through it, especially at the standard price of 20 euro.

**EDIT**
Changing from "not recomending" to "recomending"

After thinking about the game for a bit I realized that while I might not have enjoyed the ending, I did quite enjoy the game before that. So just writing the review right away after finishing it skewed my opinion a bit. I don't think the game is worth 20 euro. But if you can get it for less than 9 it might be worth it if you enjoy a very short game.

Still, im not too thrilled about the game.

The game of the year edition is still just the original unpatched game with dlc. They have NEVER patched this unless you get it on console.

I changed the review to negative since they have not released a single patch since launch despite game breaking issues for a lot of people!

Nier Automata is a superb action game with a very interesting story that manages to bring up a load of philosophical questions without being too vague in what it has to say. But still leaving a lot for the player to think about.
The world building is really amazing and I think anyone who passes this game perhaps because they don't usually like Japanese games or RPGs is making a mistake.

The game does not require you to play the previous Nier(2010) as the story is pretty much unrelated, however if you have played it you will find a chunk of references and stuff you will recognize from it.

I think the game strikes a perfect balance with introducing elements, progressing the story and opening up the world for you. After an excellent introductory action packed section you're put in to the open world, if you're just interested in playing through the story and not do side quests or exploring running to the main objectives shouldn't take too long and you're never forced to do any tedious grinding of any kind unless you're thinking about 100% every item and side quest.

If you're playing this DO NOT STOP PLAYING AFTER ENDING A. You're not even halfway through the story at that point. I think its a bit misleading to call them "endings" as it really is more like different chapters, and the only part you are gonna be "replaying" is done from a different perspective from the first time with additional story elements revealed. After that everything will be new.

The fighting in this game is amazing, its incredibly intuitive when you're new and fun from the get go but also has a lot of depths as you discover combos or how equipping different weapons can affect how you attack, you can have two weapons equipped at a time and these weapons can change how you attack with both of them. For example equipping a heavy sword and spear you can do a cool move where you stick the spear in the ground and hold on to it then spin around it swinging the sword. Everything is really fast and fluid and since doing an action always cancels out whatever you're doing you always feel 100% in control.

Movement and dodging (or dashing?) feels wonderful to be honest. Even just running around is fun and exploring any of the areas in the game is just a blast, whether parkouring around the buildings in the city or sliding down sand dunes in the desert. Also it compliments the combat beautifully.

Beyond that you can equip different computer chips that can have varying affects. You get a certain amount of slots you can fill out, different chips take out different amount of slots. If you want to boost your damage you can fill out your slots with damage boosting chips and perhaps a couple to increase your chance of critical. If you value speed and dodging you can equip chips to boost movement and your dodging distance. Perhaps you like to go all in and go for a tanky hard headed approach, boost your damage and install a chip that will heal you X amount of what you deal out to your enemies. Combined with the different weapons you can really make something fun that you will enjoy. It's impressive how much variation you can get out of it.

You also have your "pod" hovering above you which you can use to either shoot or unleash a special attack move or other function depending on what you put in it, different ones can be equipped and they all vary quite a bit with incredibly cool effects.

Certain area's of the game switches up camera perspective and gamestyle. There are some parts that played with a side scrolling perspective and some where you're seeing things from a topdown perspective. These transitions are smooth as all heck and keeps the game interesting.

Overall design is beautiful both visually and the game design. The bosses are creative and fun and the many different enemy types that really keeps things interesting. Some "bullet hell" sections are just incredibly intense and really gets your heart pumping.

With that said there are some technical issues present on the pc version, however they should be fixable with mods if it hasn't been patched by the time you're reading this.

Ive probably forgotten to say most things I wanted to say about this game. But Its amazing. I usually have to force myself to finish a game, but this one I really have to force myself to stop playing instead.

Don't have a lot to say, but if you're fine with walking simulators, this game offers a great story with believable characters, a suspenseful mystery and a satisfying ending. I highly recommend it, played through it in one sitting, took about 3 and a half hours to complete.

I really enjoyed the original Brainbread mod for HL1 so playing this was somewhat disappointing. I know its in early access and not complete. But from what I've seen it looks like they got quite a bit to go.
For starters gameplay is sluggish and awkward and the visual feed back from guns and hitting enemies leaves a lot to be desired. The level design and objectives are a huge step down from the original, the game is simply just not enjoyable nor fun in its current state. You join a server and its just a mess. Visually the game is a mixed bag, containing a couple impressive assets along with some ugly ones.

I hope they roll out some bigger maps with proper objectives, as those were the best ones in the original.

If this is your first time seeing Brainbread, download the original HL1 mod. It has more and better content and is honestly more visually appealing and cohesive at the moment.

The best first person shooter I've played since Bioshock. And the things it does so well and makes me think so highly of it, it probably does better than Bioshock. Level design, shooting mechanics and pacing are probably the best I've seen in any first person shooter in a long time. It comes together amazingly! The level design is like that of old school shooters where the maps are big and open filled with secrets, but if you just want to run through the level mindlessly slaughtering demons that is an option too, with the exception of the occasional environmental puzzles which offer some nice change of pace!

Single player is a perfect 11/10

Now for the less positive things.

Then theres the multiplayer... which is... eh... there and okay. It would have been better if they just made a simple online mode using the mechanics of the single player and weapon pick ups. But instead they have this call of duty progress system with load outs and convoluted game modes which you can't change the rule set of, the studio they brought in essentially just added stuff to the online mode that made it worse, its quite odd really.
THERE IS NO CAPTURE THE FLAG OR DEATHMATCH!

There is a neat addition called SnapMap which allows you to create levels which can be played with up to 4 others. You can create some really amazing stuff by connecting logic and nodes to triggers and entities yadda yadda. But unfortunately you have very little control over the actual level design as you can only place pre built rooms and then fill them with props in a manner similar to Halo's forge editor. If this existed along with proper modding tools that would have been amazing as I do quite like the SnapMap editor ultimately and I hope there will be a community around it. But I would still have preferred modding tools.

This review might come of as negative, but I am really enjoying most if it in the end and the single player makes up for not just the flaws of this game, but also for the lack of anything like it the last decade.
