This game is absolutely breathtaking in every way; from the sound design, music, animation, and the puzzles themselves.... everything about this game is gorgeous and a genuine pleasure to behold. The concept is so sweet, the storyline draws you in to the point you need to know what happened! Truly a lovely game. I loved looking at everything so much that I may have to play it again. Or even put it on just to vibe to the music!! xD

Visually beautiful, love the ambiance and overall design of this game very much. Does take multiple run-through's in order to get all achievements, but it is a very short game, so that's easy enough. On the flip side, it is a very short game; I wanted more! The story-line behind the ghost children was intriguing, and I'd love to know more about this dollhouse world. The music and sound design was excellent, as well. I appreciated being able to adjust the gamma in order to better see. There is no save option, but as stated, it is a short game. I played through it twice in less than an hour.

My only complaint was how glitchy it was; nothing major or game-breaking, just annoying when a character got stuck or floated oddly in the air while climbing ladders, things showing as interactable when they were not, the 'hint coin" that couldn't be picked up, &c.

Overall: Worth a play. Whimsically dark aesthetic.

B/c this is my absolute fave game, for updates on GoaT2: https://www.ghostofatale.com/were-back/

98/100: I absolutely LOVE this game...!!
It is, quite simply: brilliant... Gorgeous, with quite a fantastic story-line!!
I've spent many hours attempting to get completionist, and it looks like I'm about to start my 2nd play-through.

Some things I liked or disliked most about the game:

  • It's absolutely beautiful, graphics-wise.

  • Gameplay is quite smooth, though on occasion a wee bit buggy (though the devs are pretty good at resolving those found thus far!)

  • The biggest issue I encountered was when the game would suddenly "hiccup" and the camera would suddenly be reversed... mainly frustrating when attempting to run from a guard or the like. This would sometime occur when picking up items, too. Otherwise, the only other "glitch" I saw was missing texture from one specific location in the catacombs (there's a screenshot on my profile of the area, if you're interested.) I'm not sure that this was not limited to only myself, but it was like that each time I visited.

  • While I've spent upwards of 20+ hours playing the game for my first walk through (albeit, I'm a slower player, as I like to stop to check out graphics/textures, admire subtle things, get "completion" stuffs...), I do feel the story is almost too short... it really left me wishing there was more!! But, I suppose that's a good thing. I know it took quite a while for the team to make this game, and they've done a fantastic job, but I surely cannot wait for a sequel to be made. There is *clearly* more to Tilo's story...!!

  • The NPC's are well written, and very amusing; I was even a fan of the Commander (and his *terrible* minstrel skills!!)

  • There are chamber pots eeeeverywhere... there's even a little room I found with only a chamber pot in it... I laughed when I realised it's a little medieval bathroom!! How quaint!

  • I loved all the lore; every item truly has a bit of lore about it that you can read!!

  • There are loads of little, hidden secrets all over the place, from secret passageways, to chests, items, and more... it really pays to be curious in this game!

I love the little touches they put in to this game, and I wish there was a massive, open-world version we could explore, Skyrim style, set in this world. I really want to explore and visit all these places I read about from the lore! :O

Love this series. Played the 3rd one on iPhone, fell in love. Decided to get the older ones. It's actually amusing, because some stuff from the 3rd one now makes sense. XD Love it, though. Short, sweet, point-and-click goodness. You feel clever, without too much strain on the brain. The art is awesome, and the music is wonderful, as always. Love this series, love this studio!

I adore the Portal series. Besides the fact that I feel insanely clever solving the puzzles, the characters, and the storyline are legit amazing. Portal 2 took it a step further; the storyline really gets in to the backstory of this little part of the universe, and while it's got hilariously quotable moments, there are some pretty dark things mixed in. I seriously love it to pieces; it never gets old. I couldn't quite explain it to a friend, so I had them watch it, and now they, too, love it.
