Looks amazing! The newer assets (models and textures aside from the ray tracing) change the aesthetic of the game as they are not 100% faithful to the original and some people may not like this, but personally I do. I've only played it for a little over an hour, but within that hour I got through the first 17 levels. The game is a little bit buggy--I had to reload a level because it had become bugged, but it works well enough that it's still a good experience, especially for free!

...The only real issue is that it's extremely hard to run. You're going to need top of the line hardware to run this at all. On my 4090 at 1440p with DLSS set to quality and all the ray tracing settings maxed out, it never dips below 60. So it CAN run well when provided enough power, it just requires a LOT of power because ray tracing is very computationally expensive. I'd recommend a 3070 or better. I was able to get it running fairly well on a 3070 Ti.

If you're struggling to run it, there are a few things you can do:

Go into the RTX settings menu (Alt + X) and enable DLSS. Set it to Auto, Balanced, or lower. Set the textures to high instead of ultra--this will help free up VRAM. Try lowering the ray tracing settings. You may also need to lower the native resolution in the Portal settings menu to 1080p or even lower on top of enabling DLSS. If your VRAM is being completely filled up, that can cause significant performance problems.

If you're running this on an older card, you may need to lower the resolution so much in order to get playable frame rates that it will look worse than other modern games, but this doesn't indicate that it is poorly optimized. This is just how difficult it is to run full path tracing--and frankly full path tracing only makes sense if you have lots of performance to spare. Otherwise, your GPU's cycles are better spent on other graphical improvements like increased resolution--which is why it's best to not even bother with ray tracing at all until you don't have to make other sacrifices to maintain playable performance. Even on my 3070 Ti I played Cyberpunk with ray tracing off, because with it on I had to lower the DLSS setting to Balanced or Performance--which made the game look worse than if I simply turned off ray tracing and set DLSS to Quality.

Basically, don't even touch ray tracing unless you have a lot of performance to spare.

By the way, did you notice there's actually a 4090 in the room Chell wakes up in?

Good one, devs.

The multiplayer is dead, so I wouldn't recommend buying this.
