I've never really played a whole lot of roguelike games before except for when I pirated The Binding of Isaac in like 7th grade. Either way, the genre isn't something I particularly fawn over cuz being frustrated sucks ass. That being said, I really really like this game. I downloaded it because I'm a sucker for pixely aesthetics and 80's zombie flick vibes and I think it has a lot of merit as a game. It's not nearly as long as I've heard the other games in its genre are but it's certainly entertaining for hours on end. The style of everything in this game is just so beautiful and fun. It isn't without it's problems though.

First off, the secondary weapons. I don't mind that they run out of ammo, especially since the starter weapons hold up pretty well anyway, but the gun shop is just utterly useless. I've been playing this game for 20 hours and I have not once bought from there because there's no point in spending $300 for a 100 bullet meat gun that's used up within the same floor. I just wish there was a way to make that shop more meaningful especially since it replaces the doctor's shop on floors 2 and 4.

Secondly, Chunks. I've seen quite a few reviewers who really don't like the guy but I actually do. I think it's such a creative mechanic and it really makes me start to panic sometimes. I also love that you are able to knock him out if you have the firepower for it. There is one problem though. His speed scales to yours, which isn't a problem in most cases, but if you're playing as Mumba or Digby with any sort of movement speed enhancements, he will zoom across rooms in the blink of an eye. I get the challenge of having to avoid traps as Chunks chases you but if he's so fast that the avoiding him and traps requires you to think faster than even humanly possible, then it's a problem.

Last but not least in my criticisms, Digby. ♥♥♥♥ Digby. I hate that kid so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ much. His ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bat is ♥♥♥♥. I was doing a true ending run and I got to the glitch floor (mind you I had already looped after a standard run so I had a lot of items) and the boss is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ IMPOSSIBLE WITH DIGBY! WHEN HE SPLITS INTO THE BLOBS, DIGBY'S BAT ONLY DEFEATS ONE OR TWO AT A TIME IF YOU'RE LUCKY! I SPENT LITERALLY 40 MINUTES ON THAT FIGHT FOR THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TO THEN SPEED UP HIS ATTACKS OUT OF NOWHERE AND THEN PROCEED TO ASSRAPE ME AS IF HE'S DIGBY'S BOYSCOUT TROOP LEADER!

Sorry, I got a little heated there but at least I know what achievement I'll be procrastinating on getting. In all seriousness, I love Dead Estate so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ much, it's such a cool game and Milkbar Lads seems like a really awesome dev team too. Looking at all the community engagement activities they've done in the past and the fact that they're working on a huge content update to what could be a completely finished and done with game just shows that the team likes doing what they do and I wish them the best. Please buy this game, it's worth every penny.

Mod browser is easily accessible and allows you to download mods just by clicking. Configuration is also simple and easy. All it needs is 1.4 lol. By far one of the most efficient modding software for any game I've ever played.
