Early Access Review
This is easily one of my most favorite games. While it's still in development, they already have a game you can sink hundreds of hours into and still have things left to do. Zombies are a constant threat, wandering groups will find you at random and each seventh night a horde will hunt you down. During the nights they sprint 28-days style and feral zombies will sprint no matter what time of day it is. Gather resources, craft gear, build a base and level up, because you have 7 Days to Die.

I really want to like this game, and at the start I really did. However after a while with the game there are lots of GLARING issues with it. I will summarize:

Pros
- realistic gunplay
- scenic maps (if you can run it at more than minimum graphics settings)
- wide variety of loot
- vehicles

Cons
- VERY hard to run even though it uses UE4; the optimization is terrible despite marginal improvements with updates
- movement in game feels very clunky and unresponsive, and the vaulting system is just an afterthought
- no region locks so you end up in a game with a 500ms ping guy from halfway around the world
- netcode is buggy at best and servers seem to be overloaded all the time
- painfully slow loading times (yes I installed it on an SSD)
- lootboxes (need I say more?)
- devs seem to only care about adding new content rather than improving the existing game's experience and functionality

In the end I simply do not recommend this game, it feels too much like another over hyped early access cash grab. The game has potential, but I don't foresee Bluehole/PUBG corp. reaching that without a huge amount of work that they don't seem to want to do. If I could return it still I would.

TLDR: Beta has potential, gameplay is satisfying, not pay-to-win, movement can be wierd sometimes, you die very fast. Overall a good game.

As far as a free to play shooter goes, this one is very well done. Considering that this is a beta release I think there is lots of potential for the game and where it could go. For me the gameplay was nicely satisfying and server latency does not seem to be an issue. Ive noticed other reviewers complaining about microtransactions, and yes they are there, but the only thing that acctually requires you to pay real money to get is cosmetics for weapons and characters. If you play the game you will accumulate plenty of currency to buy upgrades, and if you save up for a little bit you will easily be able to unlock new characters.

My only complaints are with the movement system, because sometimes it does not feel fluid at all, and that you seem to die way too quickly with no way to protect yourself if the enemy shot first. I also think that there needs to be a way for players to heal themselves, especially considering how quickly the enemy can kill you.

8/10 do recommend

With nearly 300 hours on record in this game at the time I am posting this I highly recommend Blacklight: Retribution to people who are interested in run and gun shooters. I have played this game since its open beta and it is one of the best free shooters I have seen on the market today, up there next to Team Fortress 2. It is extremely well made (created with Unreal Engine) and gameplay is balanced, despite first impressions. The customization allows anyone to tailor the gameplay to fit their playstyle, totally blowing anything else like it out of the water.

However, it makes me sad to see that the publisher, Arc (formerly Perfect World Entertainment), has abandoned this game. The developers, Zombie Studios, have updates ready to be implemented and PWE refuses to push them to the global servers, favoring instead to get as much money as they can out of the game and letting it die. If you are going to play this game please do not support PWE's poor business choices by purchasing anything with real money.

The plot in this game is simple: you are a lone spaceship fleeing from an advancing Rebel armada. You have with you the secret to the Rebel's defeat. You must get this information to the surviving Federation fleet to have any hope of surviving, and along the way readying yourself with new weapons and internal upgrades for the last stand that is inevitable once you have rejoined the Federation.

All I have to say about this game is wow. Even though the story is fairly simple and never changes, this game brings me endless hours of replayability. In this game there is a unique mix of turn based movement when you are navagating the sectors and realtime strategy when you engage in combat. Each of the universes is randomly generated, so each playthrough is unique, plus there is a large selection of starting ships to unlock, each with its own strengths (and weaknesses) allowing for even more variation in gameplay.

I recommend this for anyone who is looking for a fun RPG/Strategy game that has endless replayability and a unique environment and backstory.
