I would recommend learning about the game before playing, though it is not necessary as long as you know how to follow commands from your squad lead. However this will not make you a good player. Voicing your thoughts is important even when people ignore you. If people are rude ignore them they don't understand. Make smart decisions and you will most likely have fun. Its just like chess except you have no idea what your pieces are going to do. Lead even if your not in charge.
