Disco Elysium is one of the most impressive RPGs that I have ever played. At the end of my first time through, I marveled at what must have been the nearly insurmountable amount of work and programming necessary to make this game feel complete. It's wordy but coherent. It helps you find your short-term goals, but it also doesn't hold your hand. It is the closest that I have ever gotten to feeling like I'm playing a tabletop RPG while playing a video game. The premise of the game accounts for the lack of a real GM, and replaces it with the many voices that you might find at the table or what you as the player might think about every given situation. It's a game that lets you create the character how you want and even lets you change that character partway through if that is your wish. Most brilliantly, it's a game where every conversation and interaction seems to matter. Every selection you make seems to have an impact, even if it necessarily doesn't, and that's nothing short of incredible. Also, Kim is the best. If you have any interest in having a rich roleplaying experience with stat checks (and very little actual combat), then please buy this game and support the relatively small team that made it.
