Early Access Review
I would equate this game to a turn-based Sunless Sea without the sailing and a lot more walking. The combat might be equally as silly if we're being honest. The writing? That's what keeps you around.

I've really enjoyed playing this game on single player for it's building functions while under pressure. I'll throw on some jazz music and just continue my various building projects while the locals continue to harass my camp. When you're in complete control of camp design, a play-through can basically turn into a tower defense game. Good stuff with plenty of replayability. If you're not into solo plays, multiplayer is great too, though I definitely prefer playing alone.

Coming from someone who absolutely loved Sunless Sea, this game is hot garbage in comparison. I always loved the story elements that these games bring, but at least Sunless Sea wasn't dead-set on hamstringing you every step of the way. After 8 hours running 7 different captains, I can confirm that I've accomplished absolutely nothing because of how absurdly dangerous the environments are in this game. Once you die, you're given a pittance of what you'd accomplished up to that point to start again with. Expect many hours wasted on squandered voyages. I understand you can play on 'merciful' mode which offers the ability to load after dying, but I didn't buy this game for the absurdly difficult combat which is constantly forced upon the player. Even if I can load, ♥♥♥♥ having to edge around unavoidable combat all the time. I just wanted a good story narrative to gradually work through with a bit of challenge therein.

It just isn't fun; rather its a frustrating drag. Talk about a massive disappointment for a game I was really looking forward to enjoying instead of suffering through. Its been a long time since I've felt truly cheated out of my time, and from a developer I really liked no less. Not so much anymore.

Every night, I light a candle and place it near my window so that my soldiers may one day make their way back home. I shed a single, manly tear in their name.

Bearded Bear Man felt strange feeling in chest cavity. Will be making weeklong trek to visit the witch doctor.

Choice of Robots was well written, offers a wide variety of story choices, and reminds Bearded Bear Man not to invent the first A.I.

Unless it can hunt.

Another note: Water mysteriously fell from Bearded Bear Man's face upon completion. Some form of rain magic is suspected.

Bearded Bear Man would trade 3 golden teeth and a snakeskin for this game.

Puts hair on your chest. Its free, so try it.

Most accurate comparison I can think of: If Dark Souls was a puzzle game where the puzzles were solved through inumerable deaths. The story might be as confusing as well. Ah, but no campfires though.

Bearded Bear Man approves.
