I don't understand these "Cleaners" faction.
I want to kill aliens not fight humans...

Blizzard are slowly making progress with this game.

But I do not believe they have the managerial or technical skills to really fix the core issues.

- Counter Watch is not fun, hero design makes counter picking too powerful, particularly for tanks.
- It would make sense to limit the number of hero switches available per game per team/player.

- Too many heroes makes balancing impossible, the hero roster should be cut in half.

- Some heroes are either annoying to play against (sombra) or don't fit in the game style at all (widow).
- Ultimate abilities should be weaker (See apex legends) to increase the impact of mechanical skills.

- New map mode (clash) is horrible, It artificially makes the game score close, instead of dealing with core issues of the game which cause steam rolls.

- Community is filled with trolls and one trick ponies, It seems like a very simple (optional) feature to allow players to avoid being queued with the one tricks or toxic players (filter by endorsement level) yet this is not implemented, basically Blizzard prefers to cater for the one tricks who can ruin a game if they get counter picked / get a bad map for the hero, instead of the players who actually play the game as intended by mastering multiple heroes.

- The game would still drop you in a wide range match, even when you solo queue, these wide matches are often horribly unbalanced. I have a full time job, so I am not looking for a second unpaid job to fill up the queues for badly implemented match maker...

3 Years of early access for an AAA title, yet ♥♥♥♥♥♥ camera controls.
- very limited zoom out.
- No tilt.

I've tried using the tactical camera mode, but this one is top-down instead of isometric.

Hopefully there will be a free mod to fix this, but until then my review will remain negative.

Amazing how a game still gets updates and fixes 30 years later :)

Its already a good game.
and would be a great game once development is finished and it stops crashing on load
all the time... ;)

But I cannot give a positive review for an unfinished releases as it promotes bad practices for game developers...

Edit 1 year later.

Feels like only minor fixes / changes in the last year
- Still deadlock in combat bug.
- Still ♥♥♥♥♥♥ UX.
- Still no workshop support.

Hopefully this studio will do better when they make Endless Space 3
and / or their next game...


Edit after another attempt to enjoy the game:

- Too few map styles (e.g inland sea, or symmetrical balanced maps)
- Unbalanced Cultures (e.g Egypt / Harpan) plus the complete randomness how quickly you unlock your first culture, plus only allowing one player to pick each culture is a complete and utter game design failure.

I'm not pre-ordering future games from this studio again...

A Seven step plan to fix the game.

Step 1: fire all the product and decision makers who don't have at least 500 hours on the game.
Step 2: Rework Revenant ult because 300 HP is broken.
Step 3: Make the ranked maps cycle hourly instead of daily because its boring to play the same map 6 times in a row.
Step 4: Implement death cam in ranked and a report system to help catch / suspend cheaters.
Step 5: Implement AI based features to detect toxic and cheater players.
Step 6: Introduce a new map.
Step 7: Rework Havoc, the spin-up is easily mitigated particularly by cheaters with wall-hacks
If you can't re-balance it --> remove it from the game.

It looks like a really good game.
But without integrated mods support into steam (workshop) I don't think I will continue playing
it as I cannot (easily) customize it to my preferences...

They don't make games like this anymore :)

Quite enjoyable.

Brings back memories of Tribes :)
