Final Fantasy II was something of an experiment. There's a lot it did right though the same could be said against it. For starters, the level system. If you've heard anything about the game, chances are it's probably been regarding how you level. On paper, it showed ingenuity; cast/attack more to get stronger and tank hits to boost defence. The problem is you can exploit the system by having your party members attack each other. It will still count towards stat levels. It's a system that feeds grind addicts such as myself.
Furthermore, the game's map doesn't have a hard limit on where you can go once you get the canoe(some exceptions like the Snow Plains). Instead, it uses difficulty barriers which can be punishing to someone on their first playthrough. Going too far to the left as soon as you leave the first town could easily pit you against mid-game mobs. The spawn map is a welcome addition because of this. You could argue they're only a problem if you go out of your way to break your stats.
Trap rooms unfortunately take the dungeon design down a peg. The dungeons are littered with doors that lead nowhere, warping you to the middle of an empty room. Each step you take trying to leave yields a high chance for an encounter. I wouldn't mind it as much if there were only a few or if you got something out of it.
That's not to say it's a bad game. I liked that Square gave it more of a fleshed-out story and identities to its main cast. It helped steer the future games in a better direction. I was a fan of the re-orchestrated OST especially on classic gems like "Rebel Army".

I've come to kill Chaos. I wish for nothing more than to kill Chaos. A second doesn't go by without thoughts of me killing Chaos passing through my mind. The thought of killing Chaos is the only thing that keeps me going. Chaos is a blight on my life. I MUST KILL CHAOS! Chaos ♥♥♥♥♥♥ my dog and killed my homies. If Chaos only knew how much I want to kill Chaos. Chaos will be kicking up daisies when I'm through with Chaos. Nothing can satisfy me now except to kill Chaos. Chaos better Chaos it's Chaos because I'm about to Chaos all over Chaos' Chaos. Chaos.

An unexpected but very welcome re-releases by Capcom. Back in 2019, I was able to play through DGS1 on 3DS thanks to the efforts of Scarlet Study; a fan translation group at the time. These are prequels covering the rise to greatness of Ryunosuke Naruhodo, one of Pheonix Wright's ancestors. Set in both Victorian Britain and Meiji Japan, the game touches on relations between the 2. You see this by how characters refer to Naruhodo or the Japanese populace(usually in an invidious fashion) or how Japan, not wanting to upset international relations, gives English citizens some leeway.
As for the gameplay, having played all mainline games, I was pleasantly surprised by Sherlo- erm I mean Herlock Sholme deduction segments, jury closing statements, and cross-examining multiple witnesses, a mechanic from Takumi's earlier work "Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright".
I thought the characters were great. Naruhodo's transition from being a nervous wreck to a more composed nervous wreck. Or Susato who is not only top-tier waifu material but feels integral in those court trials. Sherlo- erm I mean Herlock was a bit of a miss for me only because he didn't feel too grounded but that makes sense given his personality in the novels. Barok van Zieks felt a little flat at first but grew on me. I can't get enough of his animations haha.
I'd like to see Capcom give a port of Apollo Justice(I feel it's been overlooked a bit despite mobile/3DS rereleases) and both Investigator spin-offs. Overall though, solid entries to the franchise and highly recommend it for newcomers and returning fans alike.

I first played this game on my PS Vita for like 4x the hours than what I have on the Steam version. If you're avoiding this game because it looks like an ecchi low-quality cash-grab, don't. I mean sure it does have ecchi mechanics with the blood cleansing but the fantastically spooky dungeons, anxiety-inducing Nightmares, and the throw-back to older game action order turn-based systems (which as a big FFX fan, I appreciated seeing) all make up for that and then some. The fairy-tale theme they go for fits well and there's a lot of fun designs(favourite being Red Riding Hood or Alice depending on class). The only low point I'd say the game has is probably the music sometimes can feel just a bit monotonous or trying to get the travelling merchant to show but overall just a great game that's sadly overlooked and I'd call pretty underrated.

This VN means a lot to me. I think it acted as the gateway to me liking the suspenseful horror genre though truth be told I first got into it with the manga(god I wish I hadn't sold...) back in my freshman year of high school. I didn't really know what I was getting myself into until the first time Rena's face changes in Ch.1 and boy did that spook me. I remember not being able to sleep and just chatting with friends on FB till morning haha. Not really much to say but if you like a story with some horror, suspense, and keeps you guessing, then look no further because this is perfect. The anime recently got a reboot but truth be told, I prefer the older artstyle which is also how I play the games. Anyways that's enough rambling. Play the game!

Castlevania is one of those games I always looked up to growing up with awe but was too afraid of repeated deaths and failure to give it the time and love it deserved. My first experience with the franchise was Harmony of Dissonance on the GBA(My brother had played the hell out of SotN but no longer had the game by the time I was into games so RIP). Whether it was because I was ass at the game or HoD isn't the best game to start with, I put the series down.
Years later, a good friend of mine and I talk about early day games and CV comes up. He's pretty good at the game, I see him do some runs of the first 3, and a fire ignites in me to give the games another shot. CV1-3 was no cakewalk but it was fun finding ways to cheese certain bosses or items and make progress whilst dealing with all the BS platforming they were known for(damn knockbacks).
This is definitely a good collection for any CV fan or just platforming fan to have under their belt. The only thing I wish was that Konami would come back to it and make another collection or two up to Order of Ecclesia as that's what many(myself included) consider the last true Castlevania game,

I didn't get too far into it when I first played this on my modded PSP(it's been ported. A LOT.) However a good friend of mine was a big fan of the game and he kind of nudged me into giving it another shot for which I'm grateful because the game is definitely a diamond in the rough if you put the time in to finishing it. I was never good at platformers be it Mega man, Ducktales, or Castlevania so coming into this game again was definitely a challenge but it was fun and nothing beats that satisfaction of getting better and better with every death(one of the reasons I love danmaku).
Not so much a review as it is how I felt but eh I guess that's what reviews are. If you want to get into platformers or are a vet and are looking for something new to satiate your palate, please try this game out. It has a banger OST, a great story, and a fleshed out cast of characters that feel unique. This was a project of love and it shows.

-One of the more well-rounded entries in the series. Having bombs use power and lives from the score system makes for a good starting point for anyone trying to get into Touhou along with 7 and 8 imho.
-The music is also nothing short of amazing(just remember that one drunkard composed them!) with my favourite track definitely being "The Gensokyo the Gods Loved" aka Stage 3 theme. I'd go as far as to say this game has the best overall score in the series.
-The story covers one of the most pivotal points in Gensokyo's mythos with the introduction of a new shrine from the 'Outside World' and many of the more recurring characters like Sanae, Nitori, and Momiji to name a few making their debut here.
-That about covers the gist of it. Highly recommend this game especially if you're new to the series or a fan of danmaku in general. A very solid title.

Still can't believe ATLUS ported this over to PC. PapaBless
A great amount of replayability. Did an incompletely playthrough of P4 on PS2 a long time ago. Some time in 2017 I got a Vita and had a blast playing through Golden on that.
I saw leaks of an Amazon listing for this game around 1 month ago and I was pretty doubtful but man so awesome it happened. Highly recommend. Think of it as a JRPG meets VN with mini-games sprinkled in. Because you have different options just about every day, it's fun to go back and mix it up a bit.

P.S. Chie best waifu <3 Nanako best lil sis T_T

So a little backstory. It was around 2013/2014 and I was a complete noob at fighting games(still kind of am). I was however very into MLP:FiM. Now I understand this game has it's own identity in no way related to MLP but back when it was still 'Friendship is Magic', I gave it a shot mainly playing Applejack and really enjoyed just messing around. It also showed that the team at the time had a lot of potential(which now a lot more people have come to realise).
'Them's Fightin' Herds' is a really solid fighter for veterans and first-timers alike. Don't judge it by it's aesthetics and solely by it's gameplay. The tutorial is solid, detailed, and will show any newcomer to the genre all they need to know even including topics like hitboxes and frame data. The music is amazing and it shows they really put in a lot of love into this game. There are only 6 characters which some might call a con but they're all very unique and spread out. There is a Goat character coming in the next major patch as of this review and hopefully more after. I can understand they wanted to polish everything in the game for their 1.0 release before working on the roster so imo shouldn't really fault them too much for that.
The story mode beats imo most other fighting games period. Great dialogue and it goes over some basic character movements in the platforming sections. The lobby is arguably the best in the genre. Fun customisation, PvE in the salt mines which leads to more cosmetics, and a cutesy little hub to just vibe in. Netcode is just as great as people claim and it's only going to get better from my understanding as they plan to get the same update that Skullgirls got for their netcode.
The developers are involved with the community and open to play matches or discuss issues or ways that the game can be improved. I love that in games in general. There aren't that many players at the moment but the numbers are steadily growing and I really wish the team great success because their dedication and passion definitely merits it.
Sorry this review's on the messy side but just wanted to give my thoughts in no particular order. Great game, great community, and great team. What more does one need?
Also TIANHUO REPRESENT!
