I really want to give this game a try, OH MY GOD, how I really REALLY wanted to give this game a fair shake. But f​u​c​k​ dude, there is so much wrong with this game in terms of game-play. But first, I have absolutely 0 clue as to why but this game just stopped recognizing my controller. I've tried launching it through big picture, turning off and on, looking up solutions. Nothing. The controller isn't the issue because I've launched other games with it and it's worked perfectly fine. Plus I was using this game for the ENTIRE PLAY-THROUGH. So I don't know. Anyway for the game-play:

1) I don't understand the what value the guard gauge system brings to the game, it just makes enemies super spongy
2) Dungeons are super uninteresting and unrewarding
3) Grindy, I know I literally have 5 f​u​c​k​i​n​g​ hours in the game but I killed every monster in my way all the way to the end of each dungeon and I got walled HARD by Noire and the Dragon. The dragon eventually got a bit easier but stupid ​a​s​s​ idiot Compa is soft as s​h​i​t even with the current best armor who dies REPEATEDLY. Now don't confuse the word "tedium" with "hard" which is my next point
4) Even though I'm still towards the start of what I can see being the 2/4ths of the game, it seems a lot of the reviews agree that combat is pretty mind numbingly boring and repetitive. You find a combo and stick with it for the rest of the game. Even then you get walled by enemies like 8 levels above you. So you keep killing all the enemies in a dungeon just to leave to replenish your health and magic. JUST TO COME BACK AND DO IT AGAIN WITH THE SAME COMBO.

Again, I really wanted to at-least finish this game but I was already annoyed by the game-play and the controller part just made me lose all motivation. Yes, I did in fact try using mouse/keyboard... you can tell how well that went.

I don't know I enjoy the characters somewhat, perhaps I'll watch the anime.

(My time on this game says 19 minutes but I launched the game through the config version and I guess it didn't actually let steam track it but i'm assuming I have around 3 hours so far in my play-through) I bought this game because of internet funny furry man from YouTube because this game sounded really cool game-play wise plus they're the same devs behind F.E.A.R and that's one of my favorite singe-player shooters. To be brief, I won't talk about the story since I'm not finished with it and honestly that's not why I am here. I'm leaving a review to talk about the combat. Holy s​h​i​t, the combat is annoying as h​e​l​l.

Look I'm no expert of how hitbox/hurtboxes necessarily work in games. I only know a tiny bit about them from random fighting game videos I saw on YouTube. HOWEVER, this game focuses largely on melee combat with some gun fights but most of the time you're gonna be LARPing as medieval knights using construction equipment as weapons. Firstly, I've had so many times where I perfectly block attacks down to the seconds and no matter what weapon the enemy is using or what I'm using, it'll still hit me through my f​u​c​k​i​n​g block. There have been times where both the enemy and I swing at the exact same time and either his attack will still hit me but mine won't hit him (my animation doesn't get interrupted and it'll still show me hitting him), or vise versa. Enemies will COD zombies LONG ARM YOU even though the weapons they are using HAVE NEXT TO NO RANGE and i'm still backing up while they're stuck in place doing their animation. I've had times where I am using a weapon like a fire-axe or sledgehammer that (what I can assume) has maybe around 3 feet at best of range literally NOT HIT THE TARGET despite me being in tongue f​u​c​k​i​n​g distance from them.

Secondly, there are 2 firearms (as of me playing this that I know of) in this game. A pistol/revolver and a shotgun. The pistols are OK... extremely inaccurate but that's kind of the point in a melee focused game so I'll give it a pass. But the shotgun is another story. I cannot stress how DOG​S​H​I​T the shotgun is in this game. I've had so many times where I have point blank blasted someone in the face with my gun and they'll stagger for a second then swing a crowbar at my head and I die. I can understand that for the bigger, bulkier enemies but not the string bean trash that you typically fight.

Lastly, here is a list of things I wish they changed before the release of the game
1) either remove the sprint meter or have the sprint meter drain around 50% less and regen 25% more. I cannot tell you how annoying it is to walk through these long a​s​s corridors with nothing happening and there really isn't anything for me to do or look at.
2) Add an FOV slider, pretty please?
3) Please give me at-least AT-LEAST 2 slots so I can hold 2 different weapons especially since you need specific ones to open doors/hatches.
4)When you run out of ammo for a gun your character will flip it and use it as a melee weapon which is cool! However, the guns aren't really good as melee weapons and I would obviously rather pick up a 2x4 or pipe instead. Please let me just throw the gun in question at the enemy, have them stagger, then in combination with the last point let me run up and get a hit in as their staggered. It would reward the player for being prepared but also knowing the mechanics of the game and knowing how to play around their inventory.
5) Just like F.E.A.R add in the ability to collect medkits (to balance this out make the medkits weaker or give us fewer of them) most of the time when I saw the medkits I either never used them because I was at full health or after a fight in the room after I would have to do the walk of shame to that other room to heal (which would take around 5 mins to walk their then back)
6) the final point, why does every room with a slight verticality or rises in the floor have invisible walls? Why do I have to do a slow animation to drop down off of a 1 foot drop? It's super slow and makes combat encounters feel super chokey.

In conclusion, this formula has a lot of potential but it came out with confusing structure and bad telegraphing.
