Early Access Review
Holy. f*cking. sh*t.

Just played the new update, and that is my conclusion after 4 hours with it.

Let me explain. I've been playing GTTOD since back in the day, when the levels were procedurally generated, the graphics were nice but flat, there was no ammo, and holy hell was the grenade launcher op.

It was a decent time killer back then, with really fun mechanics, but not alot more. I really liked the movement (Although i would have played a f*cking hello kitty game if it had wall riding at that point. Jesus was i down bad) but didn't think much more of it. A fun time waster, with fun gunplay.

After not playing the game for a while, i came back just in time for the (appropriately named) Excessively late update.

It was... not what i hoped for.

Don't get me wrong, the game got way better in many ways. Graphically, the game felt like it finally got out of puberty, and was starting to figure out a direction. The guns were more refined, more satisfying, and felt way better to use overall. The enemies were becoming diverse, not just, y'know, a dude and a drone. I had to actually pay attention to who i was fighting, but the enemies were visually distinguishable, so there was no difficulty there. And the music, oh lord, whoever produced it is a genius.

But, as much as all i've said above is great and all, one thing took a noticeable hit. The movement.

It felt incredibly clunky. Instead of feeling like an agile hyper-soldier, outmaneuvering my enemies, i felt like a brick in a space suit. To be more specific, the wall running was sh*t.

You could be going straight for a wall, after gathering a f*ck-ton of speed, and just straight up face plant into it. And you could say "Well maybe they made it more difficult to be more skill expressive". And i could accept that, if it wasn't for the fact that it felt like i had no control over it. Sometimes i would get sucked to walls that were behind my back, sometimes i'd be hitting the walls at the perfect angle, and my dude would just go "Nah lmao" and fall like a bag of bricks into the f*cking abyss.

Point being, i hated the movement, so i dropped the game.

Now, you can take all i wrote above, and wipe your f*cking ass with it, because the dev decided to seclude himself to the tibetan mountains for 16 months and came back with the best update i've ever seen in my life.

Here i was thinking the guns were good in the last update. Nah. The sound design of each and every gun (i've tested so far) is godlike. The impact of every shot feels incredibly satisfying. The level design is on a whole 'nother level. The enemies, more striking. And while not everyone would agree, i prefer the new music over the old one.

But the movement. The f*cking movement.

Smooth. Fast. Incredibly f*cking addicting. I might as well be playing "the floor is lava" with how much time i spend not flying through the air. It is, without a doubt, the best movement in any game i played. And f*ck me, i have around 600 hours in titanfall 2.

I could go on for days about it. And hell, that's not even where this update ends, not even close. But i don't wanna write a whole ass paper boosting low_hanging_fruits(the main dev)'s ego, so you'll just have to discover all of it by playing the game yourself. All jokes aside, this update is absolutely incredible, and i cannot recommend enough that you should get the game and try it out for yourself.

As a last note, i do have to say i'd highly appreciate a waypoint/minimap system, since my ape brain always forgets where all the bunkers are when i have 3 keys.

I haven't played a game with this good of a story... ever, i think. The twists that don't feel forced, turns that make sense, and the narrative is just amazing. You can see the love the devs put into this game. Story aside, the mechanics are top notch as well. Fluid, intuitive and rewarding, no death feels frustrating, more like a stepping stone to success. 10/10, insta-buying part 2.
