This game has a lot going for it, as it incorporates a lot of what we love about roguelikes. Bullet hell. Tight movement. Surprisingly gratifying gunplay. Sparse but rewarding melee. But this game NAILS atmosphere. I struggle to think of many games PERIOD, let alone roguelikes, which manage to regularly pull me in with its setpieces, music, and tone. Areas feel open and empty as often as they feel suffocatingly claustrophobic, music swells and ebbs with each passing moment, in AND out of combat.

Solid 9/10. Beat the game at least once before you go into Tower of Sisyphus. Also, Hyperion? Peak.

Are you a Forever DM in desperate need of just playing for once in your godsdamned life? A podcast junkie with not enough friends? A player cursed by the scourge of Scheduling Conflicts:tm:? Talk to your doctor (or therapist) about Baldur's Gate 3!

Baldur's Gate 3 has been shown in studies to engross players, enthrall parties, and inspire fledgling adventurers to come together solo OR in a party to process their trauma through character building and careful realization of every YA trope you've come to know and love for the past thirty years!

Side effects include curing depression, worsening depression, existential crisis, lost time, abandoned social engagements, uncontrollable fits of laughter or crying, and hyperfixation.

This game took me captive in 2017 when it came out, and it still takes me captive to this day.

Stunningly beautiful, even on Medium settings (the default and standard PS4 settings). Tight, fluid gameplay that allows seamless integration of stealth, combat and crafting simultaneously. A massive, beautiful world and a story spanning its entirety that keeps you hooked to the very end.

Admittedly, the port has a LOT of issues. Many of the in-game options don't work for it, which means you need to go into your GPU's control panel to force some of those settings (the big ones being Vsync, Anti-aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering). But Guerrilla has been extremely receptive of its playerbase since the port launched and has been administering patches regularly to squash bugs and get the game into a more consistently playable state. As of the latest patch, my rig (i5-7700k/GTX 1060/32gb RAM/120hz display) hasn't suffered a crash yet, and pulls a solid 60 on Medium (45-50 on Ultra) with no crashes to speak of.

UPDATE 11/4/20: Patch 1.0.7 has FIXED Anisotropic Filtering, and it's a big improvement!

I don't blame you if you wanna wait for a patch or a sale, but I'm optimistic about the state of the game going forward--and if your computer is better than mine, I don't see you having a problem diving into this absolute masterpiece.

The impostor led myself and two of my friends to a Mexican standoff in the medbay as he cut the oxygen.

I was a fool.

10/10 would be the last one standing in medbay and get my neck snapped again

Screw my last review. My last review was five hours in. I'm a hundred and fifty and change in now.

BUY THIS GAME. NOW. (Or at your earliest possible convenience)

This game, this freaking game, this utterly beautiful melding of hack 'n' slash, rogue-like, and RPG, with its deep and evolving story, captivating art style and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GODLIKE soundtrack make it one of the most soul-entrancing experiences I've ever had the pleasure of playing.

It's my game of the year for sure. It's an absolute labor of love, and I'm having a genuinely hard time not recommending it to literally everyone.

I have just under 700 hours total on this bad boy, and it's fun as hell. Mighta been hard to recommend prior to it going F2P, but since it did I can't recommend it more.

I've put several hundred hours into this game on 360. It has not gotten old.

The utter intricacy and depth with which every single setpiece and corner of this world is crafted is an achievement in and of itself. I've played this game through at least nine times, and no run has been the same. I always find a new path to explore. A new person to talk to, an avenue to achieve something I didn't know existed before.

This remains one of my favorite games ever made.

A great introduction to Yu-Gi-Oh! for new players, and a nice nostalgia trip through yesteryear for experienced ones. A shame there's still some issues with mechanics (particularly Gemini monsters, from what I've heard), but it doesn't detract from the experience for me, and hopefully it doesn't for you.
