Mass Effect is unlike any other franchise out there. Most other sci-fi games set in space solely focus on colonization, resource extraction/crafting, or are so far removed from the reality we are accustomed to it becomes more fiction than science. In a sense there is a familiarity to Mass Effect, not only in its narrative-driven design, but in the universe and its characters.

The lore throughout the games remained so, so, captivating. Whether it was through datapads, missions, or retroactive dialogue based on your decisions in previous games, the environments were beautifully designed to fully immerse the player within the Mass Effect universe. It doesn't try to simplify concepts, and instead demands your attention to the experiences you have throughout the games. I believe that respects the player's intelligence, and makes for stronger mental connections to the lore.

Frankly I cannot recommend this highly enough. I now see why there were always fervent fans of the original trilogy. There is so much replayability to be had, and with each game delivering around 40 hours of content, you will get your moneys worth MANY times over.

Andromeda is a halfhearted attempt at creating a Mass Effect game. If I had been a longtime fan of the series who bought this at launch after much anticipation, I definitely would be upset. But for a game that is heavily discounted when on sale... a ME newbie like me can look past its flaws.

The storytelling is clearly lacking in depth and is a rehashing of the reapers from the original trilogy; expect now an unlikely hero trope is used instead (Hollywood would be proud). The voice acting/dialogue and inconsistent facial animations really dash any semblance of seriousness, which is unfortunate.

Overall this game is a nice time sink which keeps the player occupied through repetitive 'missions' in conjunction with the main quest. Graphically there is environmental and planetary eye candy to be had, which is appreciated.

STUPIDLY good buy at $5 while on sale, wow. While the animations can be a little stiff (he is part robot after all) and there are some minor bugs, I think they add a sort of indie charm. This game isn't about perfectionism, but rather focuses on providing an experience which will tell a compelling story.

Overall, the HUD, visuals, and gunplay all come together to deliver a really fun shoot 'em up title based in the RoboCop universe. The story definitely held my interest throughout the 15 hours of playing, even with its heavy use of cutscenes and reuse of the city environment.

While not the most robust story (its very linear and lacking complexity), the gunplay/combat of FEAR 3 is really quite enjoyable and satisfying, with solid graphics to boot.

The co-op mode is a pretty interesting concept, though I didn't try it out. I may replay this as Fettel for a slightly different experience.

The ending was a little lackluster, and sheepishly leaves the door open for a sequel. It doesn't help that the story was pretty short (5hrs) - although it didn't feel like it to me. A decent buy whenever on sale.

Mixed more than outright negative. While the gunplay is more fluid and enjoyable than the first game, the beginning half of FEAR 2 is really just slog through the same few uninteresting enemies. Moreover, the heavy reliance on the 'combat arena' style of gameplay gets repetitive - and fast.

Since this game was released during the XP/Vista days, it has become highly unstable, with frequent crashes and failures to load in textures. Likewise, this game is not something I'd recommend unless on sale.

Despite the fact that the campaign retells much of the same story from a different perspective, it remains unique enough to still remain interesting. The graphics and change of pace help with that.

Early Access Review
Take the environment and enemies of Half-Life 1, add a dash of SCP-styled lore, and top it off with an crafting system (somewhat) resembling that of Prey. The result is Abiotic Factor!

I have to say, for a game in early access I am thoroughly impressed. The story is well-developed and is thoughtfully tied to the materials/recipes you acquire throughout.

This game plays extremely well co-op and will provide ~30 hours of playtime just from the story. I'll be staying around for any future content updates for sure.

It's almost shameless how much this game pulls from Dead Space. Still, it captures the genre well enough for what it is.

Story is certainly not the worse, but the slow sleuthing enforced on the player at times is maddening.

Melee mechanics are un-intuitive and frequently results in getting hit when you should have otherwise dodged. This improves (somewhat) towards the end once your gear is up to task.

Seems to play well enough without Denuvo, so good riddance to that. Get this on sale and play it once.

Absolutely bizarre DLC. I have no idea why they even created this given how loosely connected it is to the story, much less the franchise as a whole.

Do you want
  • Historical revisionism? They've got it!
  • Hackers? You betcha!
  • 3rd party launcher? Hell yes!
  • Tone deaf developer AND publisher? Without a doubt!

You really have to wonder why this game keeps going on sale for $5 when its worth SO much more!!!
