An amazing RPG that sets a high standard for the entire video gaming industry. There are no microtransactions, no predatory schemes for the developers to squeeze more money out of you, just a passionate team that really cares about you and their product.

To speak on the game itself, it also sets a high standard. It looks amazing, it sounds amazing, and feels amazing to play. The combat is challenging and tactical but not in a way that frustrates or demands too much from you. Every encounter can be accomplished with the right amount of preparation and strategy, even with the Dungeons & Dragons dice rolling system.

This is a game that you can fully immerse yourself in, and it has kept me glued to my chair without realizing how much time has passed. The characters are interesting, they have their own subplots and goals that may or may not align with any of your other party members’, forcing you to weigh the pros and cons of each decision. The world is engaging and you don’t feel like you’re an all-powerful being that can wipe away the problems with a wave of your hand.

The only thing I think would take people some time to get used to is the aforementioned D&D dice rolling system. For those unfamiliar, nearly every action has a skill that coincides with it, and that means that there is a chance for failure. Unlike skill checks in other games where you simply need to have your skills above a certain threshold to automatically succeed, these skill checks rely heavily upon RNG. No matter how skilled you are, you still could fail. This may result in frustration if you don’t get a desired outcome, but that’s simply how D&D works.

All in all, Larian Studios has produced a monumental video game that will no doubt become a contender for one of the best RPGs of all time.
