Early Access Review
One of my favorite games in the genre yet!

With the realms reborn update, the story has become more focused, giving the game a better 'flow'. Crafting is interesting with a good deal of customization, especially with options to adjust and customize appearance of gear pieces.

The building system is robust with many different styles/tilesets, so there should be something for just about anyone to enjoy.

The game offers difficulty settings that you can adjust every time you generate a new realm at your portal device, so you're never stuck at any particular difficulty setting.

That said, the game is still under development. The storyline isn't finished, but there are repeatable end-game mechanics to keep you going, and of course there's always more building and crafting you could do!

All in all I'd give this game a 7/10, or an 8,5/10 when taking into account it's not a finished product yet.

I've liked Darksiders 1 and 2, quite a lot. Its very clear nods to Zelda, mixed with a bit more action and danger (and more serious tone, ish). Now, I only have 3 hours on file for this game, so I'm only here to review the early bits.

Fury herself, she's got a nice design. The world looks great, I like the whip as a weapon.

I picked the 'normal' difficulty, because I am admittedly pretty bad at 'dodge or die' kinds of games. But even at this difficulty, the game feels extremely difficult, and a little unfairly so. Some of that is to do with the camera and responsiveness of Fury to controller input. It's more than a handful of times that, instead of swinging off a pipe with her whip, Fury decides to just do some aerial whip attacks, despite the red icon on the pipe indicating that i can, in fact, swing from it.

But there are enemies that feel just as unfair. Quite a few in these first three hours of the game (which I'm sure people that are actually good at this type of game would go through in maybe an hour). New types of enemies that jump at you out of nowhere and 1-2 your health bar from 75% to 0. Or just a big flaming dude that you'd better dodge, because if you get hit by his first attack, he chains in two more, and you don't get a chance to dodge those. 100-0 health just like that.

Finally beating that bastard, I move forward only to find a new miniboss no more than five minutes later. In a tiny room. With his own attack patterns (of course), except each hit whacks my hp down by about a third, and the small room we're in doesn't leave me (or the camera) much room to create some space so I can figure this out.

I should note that I am not averse to difficult bosses and enemies, they can make a game really fun! But maybe not put them in the first three hours of the game, when I'm still very much getting used to the camera, the controls and my own attack patterns. I went from 'I cannot wait to play this' to 'I'm not sure if I can cope with another hour of this' in the span of 3 in-game hours.

So, if you're a fan of the other Darksiders games and you're also good at dodging things and quickly reading enemy attack patterns to create a good counter, this game might be fun for you. If you're not good at those things, this game will be a difficult challenge at best, or just feel incredibly frustrating and unfair at worst.

Would be worth the money on sale, but I have to echo the other negative reviews: After several hours this has still not been applied to my account, and I *have* linked my steam account to my Trion account. Sadly there's also no option in the account settings to try and un-link/re-link Steam to fix this, so that's kind of disappointing. I would've bought this from them directly if I'd known this beforehand.
