Listen to the Negative Reviews

on the bottom is a quick summary

I’m the kind of person who always needs to experience a game for myself, which is why I decided to buy this one despite the poor reviews.

I appreciate the effort developers put into creating a game because I couldn’t make something like that myself. The music is beautiful and fits the Nordic theme perfectly, as do the setting and characters. But that’s about it.

The controls are terrible, sluggish, and far from smooth. The camera is a complete disaster.

Boss fights are supposed to be a highlight in games, but here, they’re worse than the regular encounters. What do I mean by worse? Imagine a boss with a pattern of just three attacks that get slightly extended as you chip away at one-third of its health. Or, out of nowhere, the boss might just one-shot you for fun.

Some bosses take two or three attempts to beat, but suddenly, on your third try, they’ll introduce a completely new move they’ve never used before.

You never really know where to go. While this isn't a huge issue because there isn’t a large map or many NPCs, it’s still frustrating when the answer is so obvious that it leaves you thinking, “No one would have figured that out.”

Now, let’s talk about the leveling and upgrade system. Both are terrible, especially for a game released in 2019. Leveling up is super basic—just run in circles killing mobs a couple of times, and you'll usually level up. The stats you gain are so useless that it doesn’t make a noticeable difference whether you fight a boss at level 8 or level 15, or later in the game, at level 28 versus 40. You hardly notice any improvement.

The upgrade system is more important, as you can significantly boost your weapon stats, but only up to five times, after which you’re stuck. And don’t get me started on the currency, the "fragments," or the fact that upgrade crystals are story-locked, meaning you can only upgrade your weapons to a certain level at specific points in the story.

I have no idea who at Void Studios thought releasing the game in this state was a good idea, but it’s really not good. Mechanics that don’t work, atrocious camera control, and clunky movement that even The Angel of Darkness would laugh at. The only redeeming quality is the calming, beautiful music, but even that is looped endlessly.

Quick Summary

It’s like a 2004 version of Dark Souls, but the difficulty here lies in the bad controls and camera. If you have zero expectations and have already played all the good games, you could force your way through this one.

I did manage to complete it 100%, but I only enjoyed the first eight hours—after that, it just got worse.

In 2004, this game might’ve been an 8/10, something I’d have played on Xbox, GameCube, or PS2. But today, it’s a 2/10. There are far better games that do this setting justice.

One point for the music and another for actually having the guts to release it.

Exciting DLC: A Must-Play for Fans of the Basegame

This DLC offers you:

- A brand new area to explore
- 11 side quests
- An intense main quest
- An epic boss fight that will test your skills with Ifrit
- Endgame content (!)

It’s a stronger DLC than "Echoes of the Fallen" and offers even more. If you enjoyed the base game, this DLC will definitely not disappoint

10/10. I love Final Fantasy!

Echoes of the Fallen short Review

I mainly got the Season Pass for "The Rising Tide," so I didn't really care much about the content from "Echoes of the Fallen." But it's actually pretty decent—you get a full dungeon and a nice boss fight. The music is absolutely amazing and really adds to the experience.

The weapon you can craft at the end looks really cool.

Overall, it's an okay DLC. I wouldn't buy it on its own, but as an addition to "The Rising Tide," it's a nice bonus. It's an average DLC, but on the higher end of average, meaning it actually raises the overall quality.

Final Fantasy 16 Review

For those who don't want to read too much: there's a conclusion at the bottom. Also a German Review for my comrades

Short Review

A fantastic Final Fantasy that takes a darker turn. It has a very linear structure and is filled with incredibly well-done cinematics. It's not as colorful as its predecessors, but definitely one of the best entries in the Final Fantasy series.

+ You can pet dat daaawg!

Story

After just the first eight hours of gameplay, I was already blown away by the interaction between gameplay and cutscenes and wanted to write a review immediately. However, having played many games, I know that a game can initially seem more interesting than it truly is in the long run. This is not the case here. After over 30 hours, I'm still captivated by the cinematics and storytelling. Definitely one of the best stories I've experienced in recent years.

Gameplay

The gameplay remains relatively simple. You mostly press just two buttons to perform combos and occasionally dodge. However, the core element is the Esper abilities. While it might initially seem repetitive and like "button mashing," the Esper abilities add variety both in gameplay and visually. What may seem monotonous quickly turns into an explosive display of colors, with impressive visual effects.

Content

I'm only referring to the base game, which costs €50, as I’m still playing through it and haven’t unlocked any DLCs yet.

As mentioned, I’ve already put in over 30 hours and don’t feel like I’m anywhere near the end. I should note that I’m mostly just completing the main quests (MQ) and side quests (SQ), although the side quests don’t take very long.

Additionally, you can replay chapters either with the same equipment or in a downgraded version via Arcade mode, where you're rated based on damage, combos, etc.

In addition, there is a well-organized glossary, and you can view the connections and thoughts of the characters, which are presented in a very clear and innovative way.

There’s also a bulletin board with special monsters and an Orchestrion, which lets you play all the game’s soundtracks.

It’s also important to mention that you can access the compendium at any time during the cutscenes/cinematics and exploration. There, depending on your progress and events, you'll find important details about the characters, locations, or monsters that are currently relevant.

I’m sure there’s still a lot left to unlock, so I’ll likely update this section once I finish the game.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack is outstanding, and the music perfectly complements the atmosphere of the game.
World

Unfortunately, there’s no open world, but the free-roam areas are large, highly detailed, and beautifully designed.

Performance & Bugs

Technically, the game runs smoothly for the most part, though there are occasional noticeable frame drops after long cutscenes or while exploring.

I haven't encountered any bugs so far.

Conclusion

Overall, this game is a dark, cinematically impressive masterpiece, especially standing out for its cutscenes and story. Although there’s no open world, the free-roam areas are big enough to give you a sense of openness. While the gameplay can seem simple and repetitive, the Esper abilities add enough variety to keep things exciting.

For those looking for a strong story and stunning cinematics in an expansive, seemingly endless narrative, this game is a must-play!

Final Fantasy 16 Rezension...

+ You can pet dat daaawg!

Story

Surprisingly Good for the Price

I bought it on sale for €8.99, and it was totally worth it. The graphics and gameplay feel more like a solid game from 2012, so nothing too special. However, the soundtrack, voice acting, and writing are a perfect 10/10.

I recommend it to everyone who loves well-written fairy tale stories

Imagine Rick staying silent while Morty, now your weapon, helps you in a galactic drug war to save humanity from an alien cartel

Rick & Morty would totally approve! The game’s linear flow and short levels keep things fresh, and the humor from your talking weapons feels just right—never forced. I haven't laughed this much in a game for a while; the dialogues and reactions are perfectly timed.

The only downside? The main story wraps up in about eight hours (plus two more if you grab the DLC, which is packed with the same wit).

At €40, it’s a great experience, but if you’re on the fence, snag it in a sale for €25! (Y)

Truly one of the finest among anime games

While one may find themselves often immersed in the artfully crafted cutscenes, reminiscent in their presentation of the illustrative storytelling seen in The Witcher, the gameplay is imbued with a vibrant and untamed energy. However, the flow of the game is repeatedly interrupted by the frequency of these cutscenes. New abilities are granted to the player well into the later stages of the game, and the skill tree expands almost with every chapter.

It is my recommendation to favor this game over the animated series, as one ultimately finds themselves in possession of a far more complete and polished work.

I bestow upon the game a distinguished rating of 8 out of 10, whereas the anime earns a mere 3 out of 10.

Buy if you are down bad

I have to be honest. I bought this game because of the well-detailed lady in the background. But I was pleasantly surprised. The gameplay isn’t particularly special, it reminds me of DMC, but that’s not a bad thing. The entire game could easily be a classic from the 2010s (like Dante’s Inferno, DMC4, or Prototype), just with better graphics.

The story isn’t something you’d say, "You have to play this" - it serves its purpose, but it could have been left out. Still, it’s nice that it’s there.

Hack & Slash fans won’t go wrong with this purchase, and neither will people who are as down bad as I am (You can either play as a berserker in full armor or as a dancer in light clothing, some of them even gets damaged).

So friends, if you’re an H&S fan or down bad, grab it for 3,50€, and you’ve got yourself a 10/10 game.

A little tip: If you want costumes but don’t want to spend a cent on DLCs, there are plenty in the Workshop, including some from well-known characters from other games.
Also there is a Mod called "Goddess Sound" trust me, if you buy this game for reasons, try this mod

First of all: If you haven't played it yet, buy this game instead of FF13. Not only has the combat system been polished, but the Crystarium has also been revamped, and thanks to monster breeding, there's a reason to grind. Additionally, you get to experience the entire story in a fast-forward mode within the game itself. You can also view the "prologue" chapter by chapter on the title screen.

Now regarding the "The game keeps crashing and I don't have five minutes to download a fix" issue:
The version we are playing corresponds to the one from 2012. Tell your mom you need a worse PC or buy a disc and play it on a console if you don't want to invest the five minutes.

To recover from the shock, treat yourself to a game with a three-minute boot video and five-minute loading screens.

If anyone feels offended, then think about it.

Just take the five minutes to read this guide: https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2038838545

For me, the 4GB patch and the ff13fixpatch were enough, and after that, I could enjoy the game normally. It didn't take me two minutes -> and turn off the cloud.

*if you want to play with a controller be sure to turn it on before you start the game and change the overlay setting in options from keyboard to controller

And now enjoy one of the best JRPGs that came out for the Xbox.
