Btw: I had only about 2-3 hours left before darkness so I decided to take the chance and continue looking for shelter. Guess what ... I found my home again!! :-D I slept like a rose.
But, of course, the survival continues. Next day, I went out to explore again. I found the dam, ventured through it, exited through the other side, explored a cave, crossed big hills, ... until the weather forced me to stay put for a while. Then move on and ... yep, I got lost again. I found rivers, bridges, roads, train tracks, ... but no idea where my home was. I eventually found farmland and a very nice, big house on it. I think I found my new home!
I lost a lot of great stuff stocked in my first home, but who knowsI'll survive long enough to eventually come across it again. For now, I head out to explore in another direction and hopefully these big farmlands will be easier to spot when returning home.
Lost and in a blizzard,I spend soooooo much of my time in the same situation !! I've finally learned the map of Mystery Lake, which is where you are currently lost lol. . .Best thing is to try and watch the weather ! When a blizzard or white out conditions are happening, look at your health screen, where the time left in a night or day is,you'll see "????" left in the day" giving you an idea that the weather isn't fit to go out in !! I didn't know that at first and was caught out in many a crappy weather situations !!
And to say how many times I've died would be impossible,I've died so many times I've no clue how many games I've started lol !! But those deaths help my living out !!
Hope you enjoy the game as much as I am !! If I can be of any more help, don't hesitate to give a holler !!
I've purchased it, played my first game and died after about 16 hours from hypothermia. :) Guess you're not the only one.
Now I'm on my second game and found the cottage that's in the back of the menu screen, stashed a lot of good things in it because I was carrying way too much. Then I went out to explore some more and apparently I've lost my way. No I can't seem to find the cottage anymore and while there is no sign of any other hut anywhere, the weather is getting a lot worse. I bet this character will face the same fate. :-D
I'm glad I purchased it! Your review was helpful, so thank you.
And thats just an example of what I do,there are waaaay better players out there, having way better and longer games than I am yet,I'm still new !!
I recommend buying the game,it's on sale right now for Halloween actually and give it a try !! If you don't like it,refund it,but if you do like it,let me know !!
The resources are scarce, but it's also your choice as to how to use them once you've gathered them. . .For example clothing, there are plenty of pieces of different clothing to be found, but what to do with it when you find it?? You can harvest every piece of clothing into cloth and cloth repairs the clothing you are wearing as well as is needed to craft a hatchet and knife at the forge. You also need it to craft the fur clothing once you've gotten enough animal skins (deer, wolf, bear or rabbit)...But you can also plan for the future, which is what I do,by keeping a few sets of extra clothes for that surprise wolf attack, where he shreds your gear or that blizzard you were out in (even though I know better by now). . .
I am also on the fence (like you were when you had it in your wishlisht). There are just 2 things that seem to keep me from buying it:
1) I'm afraid resources are so scarce you can hardly stay in the same place for 1 day. I know in reality resources are scarce too, but I like the idea of finding a safe place to stay for a while and survive, not having to relocate every single day. How are resources in your opinion?
2) Maybe it's common knowledge or it's a spoiler, so you don't need to answer this if it's the latter. I guess just like Zomboid you are going to die sooner or later, no matter what you do? I've no problem with that, especially in games like Zomboid, but in the Long Dark I wouldn't mind the idea that there's a chance to survive it (stumble upon a little town or road, helicopter spotting you, ...). It would be less depressing than trying to survive knowing you are going to die either way.
