Not a bad game, but nothing to write home about either.
The dev is insufferable though. Whether you agree with him or not doesn't matter much: that's not the attitude a dev should have, indie or AAA, and I suggest not condoning this type of behaviour, whatever your political affiliations may be.

I like this game; I wish I could give it a thumbs up. In fact, before the last update hit the shelves and was pushed on to us, I totally would have recommended it, no questions asked. But I can't anymore.
After Haemimont, the original devs, built a very nice and enjoyable game, Paradox gave it to a new dev: Abstraction Games. I don't care why they did it, I'm only interested in the end result: it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ disaster.

Basically, Abstraction took Haemimont's baby and totally borked it. They somehow introduced so many bugs (often game-breaking) it leaves one wondering if they had ANY idea at all what they were doing.

Avoid at all cost right now. Come back when (IF) they ever fix their mess.

>be me
>have unhealthy obsession for raccoons
>complained on twitch stream that game has no raccoons
>dev Daniel tells me fox has raccoon skin
>havemymoney.jpeg
>rushes to install game
>mfw fox skin looks nothing like a raccoon

10/10 would get catfished again

Edit: Daniel gently explained to me the raccoon skin is not available on character creation, but can be purchased or found while playing the game. Would have preferred to be able to play as a raccoon from the get go, but at least there's a legit raccoon skin. :p

Seriously though, these devs are awesomely kind and dedicated. That alone justifies buying the game full price, to me. Will edit this review when I actually get further into the game, but in the meantime, consider this an upvote for the devs attitude alone!

Okay, hear me out here. Is this game a bad game? I have no clue! If we could give a neutral review, I would, but as it stands, I guess a thumbs down will have to do.

Now, as I said, I have no clue if this game is actually good or not, but I sure as hell didn't like it. It might be unfair to the game, because I basically used it as a benchmark to see if the whole VN thing was something I would like or not, seeing how much praise the game received and the fact that it's free. And... no, I just didn't like it. Characters are cliché, story is kinda predictable despite the plot twists, and where the hell is that "great soundtrack" someone had the nerve to tag this game with?

Anyways, yeah. I guess if you're into VN games it might be good. If you're not sure or if you just want to see what the hype is all about, I guess you should save yourself a few hours and not bother. Although it is free to play, so at the end of the day there's nothing to lose trying it out.

Does exactly what it says it does, and for only 2 bucks to boot. Need a bit of variety? More customization options? Then get this thing asap.

It doesn't change the game in any way or manner though: it's not an expansion or an overhaul, just a small content pack. So if you had gripes about the main game to begin with, Miami Walls will most likely not do anything about that.

It's been pointed out already in other reviews, but it's worth repeating:
Way too many people bought this expecting another SimTower. This is not and will never be SimTower. It's a similar game, of course (and obviously) but it plays differently. It's also not a really complicated simulation: once you figure things out, money should not be a huge concern and everything should run smoothly pretty much on their own.

That said, it is a really relaxing and enjoyable experience. Simply launch your favorite music playlist or movie, and enjoy the ride. (That is my biggest complaint, by the way. Come on devs, some smooth 60s style music would do wonder for this game.)

Early Access Review
Things to keep in mind before we move on:
- Game is in early access, but not in the "still buggy and rough around the edges" kind. It's a stable and smooth ride, barely any crashes (maybe 1 every 15 hours). There are still balance issues, but nothing major. The biggest issue is the low quatity of maps available and the general lack of diversity and cosmetics, but at this point the dev have such a fine product it's easily forgivable.
- It's free-to-play, so yes you can expect some grind.

That being said:
It looks like a MOBA, and indeed you can play it like one. But there's a bit more to it, since you can play by yourself and control every units (3) on the map. It needs quite a bit of micro-managing, but if you lose, you won't be able to blame your teammates. Right now the ranking system is limited to this 1v1 mode, but there are talks of adding a ranking system for the 3v3 mode as well.

The grind is real, as I said earlier, but you can pay to bypass it. That doesn't, in any way, make this game a Pay-to-Win cashgrab. I actually regret buying (with in-game currency, I haven't spent a single real dollar yet) some "higher"-tier pilots since they were actually weaker than the starting ones according to my playstyle. So some of them just sit there, barely used... So yeah, if you can pay to buy new pilots and gear, go ahead, but you may still lose every match. What makes the difference really is the player, there's no way around that in this game.

The customization is also interesting and very much complete. You can build your rigs (the mechs you control) taking into account each pilots' strenght and really adapt it to your style and the way YOU want to play the game. Nothing forces you into a rigid set and there's nothing like "use this combo or you lose" here. So it's really a try-and-adapt experience where you just go with the flow.

So in conclusion: just install and try it out, if you think you may like it. Discover for yourself. There really is nothing to lose here, after all!

My nomination for the "Test of Time Award" 2016.

Now, I'm not saying this game will get me hooked for hours on end anymore. But it's still stupidly good, even after all these years. Honestly, if you're into RTS with base-building elements, give this one a shot. You can't really be wrong trying this one out.

So you are a human being, a soldier freshly enlisted in the Helldivers -- somewhat of an elite unit of soldiers not-at-all inspired by Starship Troopers. You fight bugs (Zergs or arachnides or Rachnis, whatever), cyborgs and the Protoss Illuminates. Of course Earth (or Super Earth, as it somehow got "Super" at some point) is in the middle of the Galaxy/Universe and everything is against us because reasons.

Look, if you're looking for a sweet story, you may want to pass. But if you're in for some action, then welcome around! For whether you want to go solo, with friends or randoms, you'll be in for a treat. Now, solo has its limits, but it's still an enjoyable ride. The real fun though is in joining people (friends if you have them) and crushing some alien scumbags under your heel. The drop-in/drop-out nature of matchmaking is pretty cool actually. You can make your own game public, so anyone can join you and help you in your mission, or private. And, of course, you can join other people too. You just have to choose in a list of available games what type of mission your want to join (easy, hard, hellish nightmare?) and voilà! you crash between the other players, maybe killing one of them in the process.

Friendly fire, pods and supplies crashing down on you, enemies spawning left and right... No, no, the game isn't perfect, but it's a blast. If this is your type of game, play it: you WILL enjoy it.

Also worthy of notice is the community. People are (mostly) polite and respectful. I have yet to encounter any real griefers in this game, and this is a huge and nice change of pace compared to what I've experienced before. It is on par with the Mount&Blade Napoleonic Wars community, if that may be any help, and probably even better.

Community/10 for sure
