This is one of those "one more run" games that will keep you busy for hours on end. It's tough but fair, and eventually those enemies you thought were ridiculously tough will become relatively easy for you to dispatch. It gives a great feeling of progression, and rewards you for playing intelligently. The gameplay feels fluid, the weapons have impact, the enemies have good design and variety, and the individual level types offer a variety of different challenges. You can customise your build based on pickups and adapt your playstyle depending on how you feel like playing the game in any given run. There is a LOT of scope for experimentation, especially at the lower difficulties.

However, there are a few weaknesses. First are the difficulty spikes with the NG+(and beyond) mechanics with the eponymous "dead cells" which ramp up the difficulty of the game. Beyond a certain point I simply just didn't want to go to the effort of tackling more annoying enemies in the earlier levels. This is exacerbated by the problem that some weapons and skills are just plain bad. And once you've unknowingly unlocked those bad skills/weapons, they are in your game forever and you'll see them drop and instead of going "oooh, I wonder if I should switch to that", you simply go "well, I'll just turn that into money." This is possibly the weakest aspect of the game. Also, despite the variety of the individual "biomes" (castle, sewers, ramparts, castle, etc), after a while, a run through any individual biome will start to feel the same as any other, as you see repeated patterns in the formation of the levels of that area.

I can recommend this game. You'll get more than enough playtime out of it to justify the asking price. However, you must expect that at a certain point, you'll stop playing... and never really feel the desire to come back again.

I realise that this sounds like a fairly negative review, but I genuinely think Dead Cells is a fantastic game that is absolutely worth your money and absolutely worth playing.

A game that looks like it should have great promise, only to be completely unplayable once you start it. From glitchy hit detection to parries, to movement that just freaks out and jumps you around the arena uncontrollably, to just plain janky controller detection.
I'd feel bad releasing a game in this state to early access.

What's not to love about Beat Saber? It's the game that I means I can recommend people get a VR headset rather than the horde of "experiences" that last about 30 minutes. It's fun, as easy or as hard as you'd like it to be, and has a solid modding community to keep the game fresh in addition to the creators themselves.

NieR: Automata is one of the best videogames ever created. It's that simple.

Do not be put off by the aesthetics, the things you've heard about "multiple playthroughs" or anything else. This game is absolutely worth your money and your time, and I cannot recommend it enough. With silky smooth gameplay that transitions effortlessly between styles, gorgeous environments, a haunting story, and an absolutely enrapturing soundtrack, every piece of NieR: Automata comes together to make a masterpiece.

Pretty much everyone who is giving a thumbs down review on this game is angry because of the Game of the YoRHa Edition re-release that didn't go to owners of the existing game. While this is a bit of a poor move to those who bought the game before this version, do not let this dissuade you from buying the game.

Play NieR: Automata.

It's Dynasty Warriors. If you don't like this style of game, this one won't change your mind, but it is fun for the mindless fun of mowing down hordes of opponents with your overpowered hero. There is actually some pretty decent challenge here at the higher levels and for some of the more difficult levels to manage the various goals that can take some trial and error in order to succeed, but ultimately this game is about feeling like a complete badass.

Also features waifus.

Early Access Review
I like the idea and it looks like there's some fun stuff here, but at the moment the community is too small, and filled with too many "gg ez" hacks fresh from DOTA2/LoL bans.

If more people start playing, then I can see it improving a lot, but this kind of game lives and dies by the community, and it the moment it seems like it's not yet alive.

Deckbuilder, dungeon crawler, brawler, roguelike... what doesn't this game have?

This game is nothing short of fantastic - with plenty of content and challenge to keep any player going for a long time. The developers were fantastic in responding to user feedback, and gave a bunch of extra content for free.

Give this game a shot, I can pretty much guarantee you won't regret it.
