There is a saying about first impressions: You should get people interested quickly, whether that is from gameplay or story. The intro to this *was* cool.

The follow up to getting blown up by the super AI in the intro was not, as I hoped, some wild combination of Sanctum and an RTS. It was hours of basic post-apoc story I do not care about, anemic scavenger hunts to collect a bunch of scraps, and to meet yet another blandly voiced, uninteresting character who runs the base shop now.

The reward for spending so long to find the parts for a single extra mg and the gold to buy parts for three more to add to the outpost? 'Go unlock more basic parts'. More grind to get to what should be the *starting point* of the base building. More wandering around in the boring, barebones extraction shooter environments to get a single tower defense mission at the end.

I understand it is supposed to be like you are actually building this little box that can move literally from the ground up. But when it has been hours into the game and all I can add is a couple walls and half a dozen floor tiles, what is even the point of this secret underground military base? Why can't they just give me a supply of basic walls and floors, and only require I craft the useful components of the base or stronger walls?

I hope this gets better. I love the idea that was in the trailer I saw. The execution is garbage.

Its a fun, amusing mouse-based text adventure.

Fancy graphics like Defense Grid 2? No.
Half-FPS like Sanctum? No.

Excellently made combination of story, TD, and direct interaction with the field? Yes.
Buy it, it was a great tower defense before steam, and now it has even more greatness!

Very, very nice game, with an awesome voice actor!
