Now, I'm not big on review bombing, but this update...this accursed update. People deserve to know about this and hear about this from as many voices as possible.

Once upon a time, I would've recommended this game. It became, for a time, my virtual "third place"....my home even, in many ways. It helped me find myself and grow as a person in ways that I never thought I could. The friends that I met, and memories that I made in here are all precious and I thank the VRC team for that much at least.

But this latest update, adding "Easy Anti-Cheat" to this virtual social space of all places, was one crossing too far. In one fell swoop, they have: given a massive middle finger to some of the most dedicated, involved, and long-time members of their community; made VRC as a whole objectively more unsafe by making benevolent - and sometimes borderline necessary - open-source community mods nearly impossible to use while doing little to meaningfully impede the usage of closed-source malicious mods; made VRC effectively impossible to use for many people with various disabilities that relied on community-made mods which provided them accessibility features which VRC on its own does not; and adversely impacted the ability of people with low-end machines to be able to enjoy VRC, as they can no longer rely on mods to patch up VRC's shoddy optimization.

As I said at the start of this, not long ago I might've recommended this to others. I even had friends from outside of VRC that I tried to (gently) drag in with me. Now though?
I can only recommend that anyone looking at it now stay far, far, FAR away before you get attached. The team behind it has proven that they don't care in the slightest for their community and are seemingly solely ruled by the pursuit of short-sighted corporate greed. Good riddance.
Until such a time as they FULLY reverse on this decision and make amends with their community, I cannot in good faith say that this is a game or social platform that you should get yourself involved in even in spite of it being completely free. And even should such a day come, I'm not sure that such callous disregard for their community can be so easily forgiven.

For now, if you're looking at getting into a virtual social space like this that supports VR, I suggest finding an alternative. I myself and many of my friends that themselves were long-time VRC denizens are planning to move to ChilloutVR, but there are other alternatives as well. But this? VRC? This ain't it, fam.

Truly, a sad day for many.
