glad i waited for full release

Yeah PC isn't "next gen" guys lets all wait until our 7000$ PCs catch up to playstation 5s performance. Really sucks that we just don't have the technology to upgrade our pcs enough to be able to run next gen 2k. Guess we gotta trade in our 3090tis for a playstation 5 or get both.

The reviews on steam could be vastly different if they made next gen available to PC. It makes zero ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sense to keep coming out with 2 different versions of the game every year. Make next gen. Give it to everyone. If it cant run next gen then ♥♥♥♥♥♥. they gotta upgrade to play a new game. Thats how it works.

edit: tried playing again. starting a myplayer is basically impossible unless you wanna spend money and even then its not great because your shots never land. New shot system is terrible you basically have to focus 100% of the time to land shots there is no casual play. Gj see you next year with the same mistakes.

♥♥♥♥ servers so much lag its been unplayable since i bought it a year ago. Id be able to recommend it if i were actually able to play the game

I'm going to preface this by saying I wrote an earlier review about 5 years ago and had about 54 hours of play time at the time of the review. I'm going to leave my original review below the new edited one so you can have an example of how this games improved. I bought this game as soon as it came out as a standalone as i was an avid DayZ Arma 2 mod player back in 2012. It was about 40$ (CAD) at the time I believe for early access, and i bought it not long after it released.

This game on its release was awful and it was awful for years because of how long it was in early access for. It was essentially a glorified walking simulator with no loot, minimal amount of guns, and no vehicles. The optimization was absolutely terrible and basically unplayable. The fps was absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

But enough about before.

I decided to give the game another shot recently, about 4 years after my last time playing. See whats going on, see if it's made any progress. I've missed the game.
The game now runs at a smooth 60 fps even on my fairly old PC with only 2GB of VRAM. The game has been optimized WAY better than I could've imagined. Arma 2 didn't run nearly as well as the SA does now. Even on populated servers and in cities my FPS is still consistent. That's also on high settings which my computer honestly shouldn't even be able to handle, but it does. Not only is the game running smoothly now, but the game has mod support capabilities now. This makes the game night vs day compared to when i played it last. Mods on this game give it life. Vanilla is okay now too, but its slow and there just isnt as much gameplay options in vanilla. Modded DayZ is the way to go and always has been. Since the DayZ Epoch days there was basically no going back. Before I wouldn't suggest buying this game for FREE. Now I do suggest you pay for it, it's actually worth it now if you're looking for DayZ. Get it if you want to play it. IMO the SA is now better than the mod was. We're missing some options and mods that the Arma 2 mod had, and some features, but now that its evident the game is being worked on i have faith in the game. Some people might enjoy their old memories of the DayZ mod more than they actually enjoyed the gameplay. The gameplay in this game isnt behind anymore. There are problems with it, it's not perfect by any means. Like vehicles are hella ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ glitchy, the ADS system is kinda whack for my taste, but its a good fleshed out game now. At the time of this review I saw 35k people online. That's a hell of a lot more than the 3k i saw online at the time of my last review. This game has life again. I thank the developers for optimizing the game and allowing the modding community to do what they do. The modding community for this game makes it 100x better than it could be as vanilla. I'm not the only one revoking their negative review either. This game went from mostly negative reviews to now mostly positive recent reviews. This game is WORTH PLAYING AGAIN. There are things I could nit pick and ♥♥♥♥♥ about still, but that's nothing compared to before. If you're thinking about trying the game, now i would suggest trying it. I've logged an additional 20 or so hours since trying the game again already, and probably going to log hundreds more. There are still broken aspects and like I said before, it's not perfect. But it is DayZ. In my review before I wouldn't even call it "DayZ". Walking looting simulator would've been more accurate. The gameplay is fun and what any DayZ player from back in the day needs to fill the hole it left years ago. I also give credit to the developers for actually making good progress with the game. Since Dean Hall left the team I was pissed he basically cashed out and left a bunch of customers with nothing after buying the game and filling his pockets, but the developers seem to have some level of care about the game and not only made the game playable but added the modding capabilities which is HUGE. Thank you modding community you make it possible to play this game for hundreds of hours. DayZ is finally DayZ again. I'm happy to say DayZ is back.

First Review:

Do not get this game. I have no idea how the reviews are mostly positive. almost 40$ (CAD) for this unfinished piece of garbage. I'm sure it'll be great when it's actually done but do not waste your money on this. I have a great computer and this ♥♥♥♥ is soooo poorly optimised that i get around a max of 50FPS (which is terrible for my computer) and it dips around 40- to even 30 fps at times. Not only is it poorly optimised but it's basically running simulator 2016 at the moment. If you want to play something that you'll enjoy, do yourself a favour and get Arma 2 Combined ops and just get the mod.

This ♥♥♥♥ is gross. I gave it a fair chance by having 50+ hours in it but its just not worth anything right now and Dean hall seems to not care about his game anymore. BTW even if it is early access.. this ♥♥♥♥ should NOT have been release thats how bad it is. There are some aspects that are cool but for people that have a worse computer than I you'll probably get around 20fps which is gross. Oh yeah thats minimum settings. Not to mention theres just not really much to do in the game itself right now. 10/10 would not buy this piece of ♥♥♥♥ ever again until its completed.

The point of this is to play with friends. No friends fk this game makes life depressing. 0/10 wouldn't play with my imaginary friends.

Okay so this game is great. You don't need to have friends to play it, NOW that's already a 10/10 situation right there. It's ALSO fun though so that makes it even better. All in all just a great game. 10/10
