Early Access Review
The devs already had a dumb water system you can read about in other reviews that makes you lose everything after a certain number of days of not playing depending on how much water you get. Now they've added a "feature" where you have to defend your stash/lobby by fighting a bunch of hard enemies, and if you fail, you lose everything. The devs truly hate the players, and I refuse to support that.

This is going to be a long review so for those of you who don't want to read a wall of text here:

TL;DR: The content has been drying up for months, and now the developers have decided to remove half of the game.

Now for the full review.

I loved playing Destiny 2. It was the first FPS that I really got into and played a lot of. I have hundreds of hours in the game on steam and hundreds more from before it left battle.net. It was one of my favorite games and something that I enjoyed playing with friends. It has truly great gunplay, a decent story, and amazing raids. It was truly a fun experience all around, but sadly it has become irredeemable for me.

When the game first came out there was a serious lack of content, but they began to fix that with the Warmind update in spring 2018. The game was harder. They added harder missions and made leveling a little more difficult. These were welcome changes because getting to maximum level and grinding for the top tier loot felt more like a challenge and more rewarding.

The first expansion was amazing. Year 2 of Destiny 2 started out with the Forsaken expansion. This was the start of the best year for Destiny. The campaign is the best story in all of Destiny, and the main villain is revealed to have been manipulated by a major being that is the raid boss for the new raid. Old weapons and armor were re-released alongside new ones with random perks which allowed for more farming to get that perfect role, and far more options when it came to gear. A new raid was added that was just fantastic, and each season of year 2 added a new game mode with more loot. The level cap was raised a huge amount so there was plenty of things for new and old players to do. One of the best parts was a new endgame area was added that had many secrets to explore, a new activity to do, and Destiny's first dungeon. Bounties were added for various activities so you could gain currencies and gear. Over all everything was a welcome improvement that made the game a more enjoyable experience.

Year 3 started in October of 2019. It started off well enough. The armor system was reworked to have random stats, and the random armor perks were removed and replaced with mods. This was a welcome change that definitely improved quality of life. The story was good but ended in a cliffhanger. The new area wasn't as in-depth as the previous expansion, but it was fun nonetheless. Unfortunately that's where the good parts end. Instead of an annual pass that included new activities they added a season pass that had a battle pass and a seasonal activity in it. The battle pass is annoying, grindy, repetitive, and the only real way to level it is through bounties. Most of the bounties involve getting kills in a certain way so I'd grab twenty or so. If I was super unlucky I'd have to get kills 20 different ways so I spent half my time in my inventory making sure I was using the right weapon. This really broke my immersion. The enemies at the end of missions in the boss room often don't even count for the bounties so there really isn't a good incentive to finish every mission. If I only have a couple of bounties left there is more to gain from simply jumping into a mission, killing a couple of enemies, and leaving without finishing it.

Another bad thing about year three is the fact that instead of a new and unique activity that stays we got a glorified strike mission that we had to do 5 billion times. This made the content very very repetitive and very very boring.

The new player experience was made worse too with Destiny 2 New Light. Instead of starting with the story new players are thrown into the game with all of their abilities and no explanation on how to use them. The starting quests are very long and very boring tutorials instead of being integrated into the story. To play the old story quests you have to go to the back of the hub area and talk to an npc.

All of this culminates into what was recently announced by Bungie. They will be removing about half of the old content. Four planets, year one campaigns, year one raids, and all strike missions played on those planets will be removed from the game. I have felt that in recent months Destiny 2 has had a lack of content. Bungie has addressed this problem by removing half the game?!? I had been struggling to continue playing with content drying up, but this just put the final nail in the coffin. I can no longer recommend the game to new or old players. I'm sorry, Bungie. I loved your game for years, but I just can't play it any more.

Love the game. Interesting gameplay, engaging story, and a nice progression that will keep people engaged. I really like the sci-fi aspect too. I highly recommend trying this game.

edit: After several hundred more hours and about two more years put into this game I must say that it has just kept getting better. It has the best micro-transaction system I have ever seen, the graphics keep getting updated to compete with all the new games, and there is more than triple the content than when I started playing. It's also completely free!
