2.2 hrs on record (2.1 hrs at review time)
I've just finished the game and I really got to say ... well, I don't know what I got to say, or better "should" say, since reviews are for people that like to get a little insight in a game before hand, get a peek of what's in store for them and wether or not they should buy it. And to those: buy it! I just have to say it's better not to read any more and just enter the world of "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter". Its just one of these games that work best the less you know about it. The story really is something else, and for me, to experience this world and the love that clearly was put into it is something I don't want to miss. In thought, this game will stick with me for quite a while I'm sure.

On the more technical note, this game just looks amazing. The photographic technology they've used to create this world so rich in detail will surely be seen in more titles from lots of developers in the future. But for its debut, I'm glad it was used in a game like this and not a generic shooter.

To finish this game probably took me around 6 hours or so I guess ... I have to guess since my "hrs on record" seems to be off. Steam tells me 2.1 hrs on record, but that's kinda just what I've played today, so, not sure what happened there. All in all I have to say this game had exactly the right length for what the story was ... any longer would have been too much imho.

So from me, this game is a must have for everyone who loves atmospheric mystery/adventue games. It's money worth spending, because making games like this just should be rewarded.

A little advice: when you play the game, look around, don't blaze through it. Take your time and make sure not to miss anything. In the world there are riddles hidden aside the storyline of following ethan carter. It seems they are not "needed" since you can "follow" ethans trail without completing these riddles. But to get to the final ending, you will need to complete all of these riddles. Don't worry, you get your chance to complete and find these riddles later on and can always solve them at any time during the game, since it's an kinda open world ... but it just is more enjoyable to solve these riddles on your way, so you don't have to backtrack later on. But its not the backtracking that is annoying, it's just not that enjoyable doing them after you have followed the "ethan" storyline up to an almost-end ... because at that point, you just want to get to the ending ... going back and solving riddles then is just a hard "cut" in the atmosphere in my oppinion. So better get them on the road ;-) ... and to not make the mistakes I've made, there are 2 riddles to find before reaching the dam quite soon in the game. The others, later, are better to spot.
