This is an action-packed and highly detailed remake of a legendary game.

Enjoyed every minute - Worth every penny (47.5hrs on record).

Xen was breath-taking.

Good job to the Crowbar Collective Devs! 10/10

I've had a lot of fun with this game, it's everything it sets out to do and more. It's taken the flavours from lots of sci-fi games and expertly combined them to make what is an excellent, adrenaline fuelled, action PVE co-op game. Yes, it has it's quirks, some 'bugs' and has had it's issues in the beginning - but I stand by that this has been a very good game.

Except, the single greatest enemy which the 'Super-Earth' Helldivers should have feared the most, has been hidden in plain sight all along: Sony's Play Station Network (PSN).
Sony are soon to enforce Steam users to link their Steam profiles (and data) to a PSN profile, in what simply appears to be a data grab by Sony on a game that has performed much better than expected. It also becomes apparent that many people will be unable to sign up for PSN anyway, due to PSN only being available in some countries.

As you can see from the influx of negative reviews after this announcement, many Helldivers will be left stranded and estranged, unable to play and spread that sweet liberty across the galaxy. So it seems that the game and the Super-Earth universe have been dealt a significant blow in it's efforts to spread managed-democracy and as the Helldivers rage on, the battlefield spreads into a new domain.

***Edit*** - Sony took stock and decided not to force people to link Steam to a PSN account. Everything is fine again... for now.

This is a poor attempt at a game and there certainly isn't as much to it, as you would imagine from the description.

My first impression was that the 'game' loaded and the resolution didn't scale properly, meaning half of the game is missing out of view of my monitor. The in-game Display/Graphics options can help to address this, but even lowering to 50% of my native resolution doesn't solve. - It's very broken.

Once you then get into the 'game' , it's simple a game of chance.... where you click on a square and see if anything is there.
There is no game play, there is no fun, you click, you explode, you restart.

The only take-away from this was that if you crash land on an alien planet, be careful of random explosives that are apparently all over the floor.

This 'game' has major issues.

To summarise:
Bad user interface
Bad use of Pythagorean theorem
Badly scaled pictures
Bad logic

I played this over the free weekend. It's comes across as a bad console port and wouldn't recommend it unless you really want a co-op game with 1 other friend and can get this game on a heavy price reduction.

Good points:
  • Slow motion bullet penetration is fun and satisfying to begin with.
  • Played over the free weekend with co-op campaign
  • You can do missions in various ways, guns blaizing or stealthy (I found the easiest way was to actually just go all out).

Bad points:
  • First of all, Co-op didnt work until I turned off the steam cloud feature with the game, which wouldn't have worked if I didn't research what the issue was and waste time doing this.
  • The controls are awful, pressing backwards doesnt move you backwards like in any other FPS, instead it turns your character around 180degrees. Movement is sluggish and not very responsive. The crouch / prone mechanics are so frustrating that I've stopped playing this game now. It just ruins the game.
  • Terrible third person view - for a game that boasts a lot about realism and a gamemode called "authentic" how is using third person to see around corners and over walls authentic.
  • Guns can't shoot through leaves or bushes
  • Only 8 missions and taking about 30-60 mins per mission (not including restarts) = a very short game.
  • 25Gb of storage used for this game, how?
