TL;DR Fun and relatively realistic physics, vehicles and combat. However, the story and the missions are predictable and boring.

I've recently bought this game and have only played it for 15 hours as of writing this review. Although, it's given me enough time to form an opinion on what I think about Just Cause 4.

POSITIVE:

To start with, I'd like to mention that Free roaming around the map and being allowed to explore, engage in a gunfight and explode ♥♥♥♥ like a bad ass are the best parts of this game. Just Cause is well known for its overly dramatic destruction of buildings, bridges and other objects. When I play this game it feels like I'm the main character of an action film with the amount of crazy effects and that part hasn't failed to impress me.

NEGATIVE:

For a AAA game that came out in 2018 there are many factors that make it disappointing. Me, being someone that was a fan of Just Cause 3 It's fair to say I was hoping for something a little bit better.

Firstly, the graphics are not up to standards for what would be expected for a game that was released in 2018. I have a powerful computer and run JC4 on max settings yet it's still very clear to me that the graphics aren't very high quality. The cut-scenes are piss poor and I don't even understand why they seem to be so blurry and grainy. If you have an average or below-average computer and have to set your graphic settings to medium then everything will appear very underwhelming. It surprises me because a game like GTA5 which was released back in 2013 (5 years before JC4) is visually more appealing to play.

Secondly, the story is mundane and perhaps the polar opposite to the superb free roam that JC4 has to offer. Cut scenes are gibberish and the dialogue is predictable. Every mission seems to be the same crap over and over again but just mixed in slightly different orders. "Get to the console", "Pick up the hacker", "Destroy X", "Protect X". It's not engaging and makes you as the player question what even is this all for. I appreciate that this game is the Sandbox and you can choose to do certain objectives in different orders yet that comes with a price. Upon opening the map it can be quite daunting at the start as it's quite cluttered and it's not clear what you should be doing. Especially, if you have DLC which adds even more side missions it becomes one big cluster♥♥♥♥ of meeting points, missions and stunts dotted in various different places. After several hours of playing the campaign and progressing it's more understandable what you're doing but you will also realise that it's super repetitive and simple. It's weird to think that I, just an ordinary player, could've thought of more innovative ideas to be incorporated into the story line and missions. Everything in the story is so cliche and because of that it's not very motivating to do something such as saving a character or achieving an objective. It feels tedious instead of exciting.

The story and missions were so pathetic that I could have just downloaded somebody's savefile of a completed game and gone straight to free roaming without feeling like I had missed something.

In Conclusion, don't buy for the story, buy for the epic action that Just Cause has to offer.
