I will tell you a parable from ancient Chinese philosopher Yoshida Kanetomo. A man is a born in a small village. He decides, at a young age, to pretend to be retarded. He pretends his entire life. Eventually he dies of his old age. At his funeral, a farmer remarks, "It was a pity he wasted his life pretending to be retarded." To which a Buddhist priest replies, "The man was not pretending."
