To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Vothana. The riffage is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of music theory most of the riffs will go over a typical listener's head. There's also Kenny Vu's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterization - his personal philosophy draws heavily Friedrich Nietzsche, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realize that they're not just kvlt- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Vothana truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the genius in Vothana's existential catchphrase "Never to Submit," which itself is a cryptic reference to Evola's Italian epic Revolt Against the Modern World. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Kenny Vu's genius unfolds itself in their headphones.
