do not even touch this game if you ADHD. otherwise if you're still willing to play this game, don't buy it. paradox does not deserve money.

whether you should get this or not is purely a question of what you want out of it. are you expecting some kind of revolutionary plot advancement or gameplay additions? then don't buy it. do you just want more Trepang2? then yea, i'd say it's worth it. but keep in mind, if you want any dlc for this game, buy only this one.

1.) the survival mode DLC is nothing spectacular. you get a new fun gamemode and some combat simulator levels. combat simulators are already the side content-est side content you could ever get in a video game. a completionist would definitely have fun with it, and trepang2 is a game worth 100% completion cause it's fun all around. what i liked most about this one is the weed and missing texture outfits.

2.) bladekisser gives you 2 new missions and some gimmick weapons. this is great on its own if, again, you don't expect some nut-busting changes... i went into it more in-depth on a review of its respective store page.

this is a very mixed bag. i love the base game, and the 2 extra missions complete the game's narrative very well, the rest of the content is very lackluster:

1.) the centerpiece of this dlc, the sword, gets absolutely no introduction whatsoever, it just appears in your supply box at the safehouse, despite the fact that the sword's picture in said supply box insinuates that you found it somewhere along the way. you'd think that it would appear in the new missions, or at the very least, you could grab it from subject 105 when you find his sepukku corpse. the sword, itself, as a weapon, is not very exciting, given the fact that trepang2 is a shooter and not a hack n slash, meaning that, fundamentally, there's not much to do with a sword: you can slash enemies with it or lunge towards them; this gets stale easily.

2.) there are also 2 new weapons which are pure gimmick. the revolver's "you need to score headshots with it" gimmick is fine, but the machine gun is unforgivable. you either use it as a replacement for the base game assault rifle or with a "taser" modification which stuns enemies. practically, this mod is useless, because the only reason you would stun an enemy in this game is to grab them as a hostage - something you can do easily in the base game in so many ways, the simplest being sliding into the enemy and pressing grab when you collide with them. i think the machine gun should have just replaced the assault rifle in the base game completely, given how useless that weapon is.

But here's where the bag becomes mixed: given the price, the time it took to release and the size of the developer, the way this DLC turned out is not shocking at all and there's really no blame or anger to be directed towards it. You could say it was disappointing because of the post-credits cliffhanger in the base game and how, when it was announced early on, it was insinuated that this DLC would break this cliffhanger somehow. It seemed like you would take on a whole new campaign as Subject 105 given the sword thematic. That didn't happen, however, and all it evokes is just disappointment.
My above critique of the content is very nitpicky and written from a "first-impression" perspective, meaning I have not tested or considered some really good utility to these new weapons. At the end of the day, this DLC is 100% worth 8 dollars if you just want more Trepang2. But if you expect more than just that, it's going to be underwhelming.
