Early Access Review
EDIT: Developers changed a lot of the gunplay, its extremely casual now. Player numbers dwindled quicker than any other game I've seen. Wait for this to come out of early access before buying.

Much like Post Scriptum, Beyond The Wire is a new outfitting for the game Squad - this time being WW1.

It shows a lot of potential. Gunfights feel tense: the awkward and clunky weaponry feels realistic. Each shot fired feels like it has weight. The ragdolls are spot on, watching an enemy be catch a bullet is outstandingly brutal as they fall back from the impact.

However there are some issues. The Argonne inspired map feels uninspired without much notablity, however the other two do a fairly good job at capturing the WW1 atmosphere. Although one map has the in-game description as 'The First Battle of The Ypres'. This battle took place during 1914, why are there 1916 British tanks lying around? Little historical oversights like this may irk observant players.

Graphical glitches are also abundant currently. A few UI glitches concerning objective markers on the map. World props being unlit as so they appear as dark apparitions. Frequent lockups happen despiterunning at a stable 70fps majoratively.

I recommend this, purely on the fact I love WW1 representation in gaming. This is worth your time, but it still needs a lot of work.

Soldiers look like clowns, if you want a good shooter in a similar vein, try Insurgency: Sandstorm. This game is a joke now and a far cry from what it was when it originally came out.
