WARNING WARNING WARNING
Make sure you download the Chronicles free DLC before starting a new game, or you'll be missing out on like 40% of the content in the game, that the original ps2 version just normally had in the game. I'm sure they had a reason to make it a separate DLC but to not even put a warning on the start screen or do literally anything to let players know that its a separate download is very scummy, very ♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the dev's part. if it weren't for this fact i'd be recommending this game instead of not recommending it.

I'm sure they have some reason to make this a separate DLC despite it being some of the most important content for this game, but to make NO mention of the practically necessary content that's missing from the base game at all? Not even a little window at game start that says something like "hey there's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of content in this free DLC over here that you'll need to start a whole entire NEW GAME for haha don't forget! :)" nothing at all?
if you're like me and got all the way past ikebokuro the second time before realizing "hey wait a minute shouldn't I have fought like 2 different fiends by now?????" then this is really extremely annoying.
what a bunch of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

As far as souls-likes go this is one of the best ones. Obviously a tongue-in-cheek game that's not meant to be taken to seriously, but at the same time the gameplay is incredibly solid, the map layouts are really well made, and its almost the same size of an actual dark souls game. My two qualms with this game is the lack of a fast travel mechanic and the fact that it's not only possible, but very easy to go through the entire game without encountering almost ANY of the npc questlines like i did. the Dev has a beta available that gives NG+ functionality, but its kinda buggy atm, so i guess that's kind of a qualm, but the fact that its clearly being worked on actively gives me hope.

This game has a lot of potential with a really interesting premise but it leans too far into the "its really hard" aspect of dark souls games without really giving the player the breathing room or feedback that dark souls tend to give. the parries(which are one of the only ways to heal) have very small windows to use, while the enemy attacks are either designed to fake you out or come at you at ultra-light speed. invincibility frames are wonky, you can get knocked out of your shell and while your character is taking their time to get up like an old man any nearby enemy can just give you a light tap to kill you the rest of the way. the fact that you do VERY little damage and pretty much every enemy takes huge chunks out of your health makes every single mob-fight a deadly dance that is fun the first 5 times i died trying to do a corpse run and became just exhausting after that. plus it, for some ungodly reason, follows DS2's method of placing groups of enemies that all run at you at once as the primary enemy placement method, which would be easier to deal with if the combat wasn't clearly designed for 1v1 fights. Dark Souls games are designed so that when you die its usually your own skill-based fault but this game has waaay too many situations where you die and groan and say "well that was some real ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, wtf"

TD;LR This game is designed to be actively hostile to player progression unless you are an absolute master of dark souls. Don't get this game unless you like games that explicitly don't want you to play them.

fun game, it'd be a lot more enjoyable if there weren't so many annoying racist teenagers on the voice chats. at least the dev had the foresight to add a "deafen mic noise" button.

"30% of players have this achievement" are people buying this game and just not playing it???

EDIT: after thinking about it for a while i'll change my score from a 9/10 to a 6/10 because of the obvious homophobia, fatshaming, misogyny, and implicit transphobia.
