Early Access Review
After finishing the game and declaring my king as a emperor, I wish to conclude the good and the bad of the game.
The Good
Good economy Mechanics
Norland provides the ability to manipulate the prices of goods produced by your own peasants. You control their day-to-day expenses and can choose to be greedy or not, deciding whether to starve them or deprive them of alcohol, which is the lifeblood of their joy in this world.
Diverse Play Styles
The culture system in the game allows houses to specialize in certain aspects, such as combat, farming, intrigue, and trade. This diversity encourages different play styles and strategic approaches.
Replayability
The game offers high replayability due to the various gameplay styles and starting modifiers that add an extra challenge to your house's prosperity. Each playthrough can feel unique and engaging.
Dynamic world
Each event in Norland causes a ripple effect, so the consequences of your actions and those around you change the world. For example, if war is being waged, the prices for weapons may increase, and if famine is rampant throughout the realm, food becomes more expensive. These events can be taken advantage of or lead to your downfall.
The Bad
unforgiving
You are often the architect of your doom. My first few playthroughs were rough: marauders tore my peasants to bits and burned down my village, famine struck my fields making food expensive, the bishop had an affair with my wife, religious uprisings occurred, and my entire village turned into drug addicts. These events can destroy your house and end your playthrough prematurely.
Poor House System
The base system allows for only five lords, which doesn’t give the feeling that you control a big family and can expand your house. Additionally, even though you can have kids, you may end up casting them out in favor of more efficient freelance lords, thus diminishing the sense of house management.

Summary

Overall, Norland has been a thrilling experience, requiring you to micromanage many aspects of the game. As it's only in early access at the time of writing this review, I am excited about the upcoming updates and potential new features that might add more spice to the game.
