Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara is basically a combination of two Dungeons & Dragons beat 'em up games that were released in arcades, and, they're from CAPCOM, which obviously is a good sign, but is it actually? In case you don't want to read what I'm about to say about the game, then the short answer is yes, otherwise let's see what this game has to offer.

Probably like many people that decided to check out this collection of Beat 'Em Up games, I learned about this collection from a ProJared video, which honestly, I didn't pay much attention to many points that Jared made in that video besides two points, that this collection was $15 dollars on steam, and that the games were quite hard. Having never ever played an actual campaign of DND, I decided to try these games as an 'introduction' to the series, now, besides having friends that were obssesed with the actual tabletop game, and have always wanted me to join in on a campaign, however, I never had the time, or intrest to play in a long campaign, as they usually do. Anyways, I'm getting a bit sidetracked, let's start off with talking about one of the games in this collection, and the first one I played, and later beat, that game being Shadows Over Mystara.

Now, Shadows over Mystara, is actually the second game in this 'series'. Seeing as this is the second game in the series, there are some improvements over the first game, such as the amount of playable characters, first off this game adds 2 more playable classes, instead of just choosing from: Elf, Cleric, Fighter, and Dwarf, you can also play as a Thief, or a... Magic-User, now, I'm sure there would have been a better name for this class, maybe like a... Wizard, or a Mage, or maybe there actually is a class in DND called Magic-User. Anyways, this adds more 'strategy' to your game play, you could use the Elf, Cleric, or Magic-User, to cast magic of course, or, you could use the Fighter, or Dwarf for straight up fighting brutality, or you could choose the thief, and the thief, does thief things, as you would expect, you know, double jumping, backstabbing, lock picking, acrobatics, pickpocketing, you know the usual. Anyways, besides the actual character class, there is also a palette swap for every character, each palette swap has their own names as well, oh yeah, did I mention that you can name your character, and that is another improvement that Shadows improved over Tower. Originally, you could only input 3 characters for your name, however, in this game, you can use 6 characters for your name, that's almost enough for a majority of names... Sorry Madison, Jonathon, and Muhammad, guess you'll have to resort to shortening your name. Now, I haven't personally tried this, but appearently, there are a few glitches you can do involving the names, that would include a space in slot 1, followed by 5 repeating letters. This could give you various powerful items in the early stages of the games, making you a tad OP.

Now, this since this game is a beat 'em up, you can pick up items to help you fight of course, and then you also have dash attacks (minus the Magic-User), you can juggle enemies with Rising Attacks, and of course, there is the megacrush, which is used by every character... minus the Magic-User, and Cleric. Now, my personal favorite class to play is the elf, mostly for the sole reason that she starts with the spell, Magic Missle, which at the start, shots out two homing orbs of magic, this is quite usful in some situations. Now, like I mentioned earlier, you can get some items, these items would include silver points (this games currency), weapons, armor, magic scrolls, potions, sub weapons (Daggers, Hammers, Burning Oil, the like.), rings and keys, now these items can either be dropped by enemies, or found in chest, some chest however, need keys to open. You know, kind of like in the actual tabletop version, maybe. Something else that I found quite unique about this game is that your character, can actually level up, these level ups can improve things like your magic power (in my case, this increased the number of magic missles were fired at once), or it could level up your weapon, and make it do more damage.

Now, the enemies in this game are quite faithful to the source material, for example, take the boss, Lych, in original DND (I did some research on this one, don't worry) he isn't affected by any magic spells, and some other enemies are also like this, so in the game, if you try to cast a magic spell on the lych, or again, some of the other enemies, you won't do any damage to them, another example is the frost salamander, this enemy is immune to normal sword attacks, and ice magic, so you'll have to fight it off with whatever magic you have, whether it is Magic Missle, Fire Spells (Obviously quite weak to this spell), or lightning... Or any of the other spells, however.... There is one sword that can defeat it, which is the Sword of Flames, which is found... in the level with the frost salamander, hopefully you picked it up, and can use it, because you can only use your spells a certain amount of times per day... or until you die. Speaking of dying, this happens a lot, you only get one life, and some of these bosses can be quite hard (Especially the final boss, but I won't talk about that right now.) Playing through this game for the first time, it took me 41 tokens to actually go through and beat the game, now, in quaters, this would equal about $10.25, now considering that this game is like $15, I feel that this is about right, better than carrying around $11 in quarters just to play this game at an actual cabinet. It's quite obvious that this game, and Tower of Doom, were made to make money and eat quarters like it was nothing. Most of the time you die though, it usually is your fault, either because you didn't dodge enough attacks (Obviously), or maybe it's because you wasted all of your magic missles at the start of the stage.

Eitherway, this is definitely an arcade collection you should consider buying, either if your a huge DND fan, a huge Capcom fan, or a huge Beat 'Em Up fan, consider buying this game and trying it out, you really won't be disappointed. Now, you might notice that I only talked about Shadows over Mystara, well, that's because I actually haven't played, or even tried Tower of Doom yet, but, that's just because I haven't gotten to it yet, but from what I got from researching around the net, Tower of Doom is basically the same, just a different story, less playable characters, and a bit more difficult... probably. Either way, this game is quite good, but that doesn't mean it is without it's faults, sure you can get concept art, through jewels you collect as you play the games themseleves, but other than concept art, there isn't too much else, there are a few house rules you can get, these could add vampire effects to your character (health absorbsion) or make it so you don't need keys for chests, or even more gold from enemies (Hell, there is even a sonic mode where your health is your money and you drop some whenever you get hit), but other than that, there really isn't anything else collectable from the vault, also a nit-pick about the magic in the game, you have to use the same button to cycle through offensive magic, helpful magic (Ala Gray Magic from Final Fantasy) or subweapons, to actually change the inventory, you have to press the jump button, which is alright, but it can mess you up if you accidently press the inventory button when you tried to cast a spell, and then you need to jump. Other than that, there are some other little things (Like the game speeding up through cutscenes whenever you press any button, using the select button to see what you have equiped for armor, etc.) But the game is good enough to make you look over the small things. This game deserves to be played, and for a score it gets a 8.5/10. It's a good game, and an easy time killer. Please Enjoy!

Rocksmith is a great tool to learn how to play guitar, whether it be from just playing along to the songs, playing the games to get to learn some of the techniques (Tremelo, Harmonics, Volume Dynamics, String Skipping) or even just jamming along to a band of your choosing.

This game is great, it has some great songs on it for beginners (like R U Mine?, Blitzkreig Bop) and great songs for expert players as well (Satch Boogie, Bat Country, The Spirit of Radio, and The Trooper). If none of those fit your taste, there is also the 1000+ DLC songs to choose from, with everything from Metal Bands with shredding solos, to bands with more Pop-Oriented chord progressions and bass lines. Overall, its a great game for music fans, and for those who want to learn a type of guitar, whether it be Lead, Rhythm, or Bass, its great for everyone... And its a great Transition from Guitar Hero/ Rock Band.

PS. The DLC is crazy good this month (November 2017) With NOFX, The Pretenders, Halestorm and TSO
