EDIT: Reverting my Negative Review because Sony has currently agreed not to implement the PSN linking requirement. Great work to the whole Helldiver community and Arrowhead for putting the point across. Hopefully no mandatory PSN linking forever.

Review:

Don't let the mixed reviews fool you, the game had a rough launch not because it was too bad, but because they didn't expect the game to be so popular it crashed their servers for almost 2 weeks. Arrowhead spent almost every other day patching the servers to increase stability and capacity.

The concept: You and up to a squad of 4 people go down to a planet (map) and complete objectives. Then after completing the main objectives, you call for a dropship to extract/rescue you.

The core of what sets this game apart from others are two things:
1. Stratagems - you can request support from your cruiser up in high orbit. This can be in the form of requesting an orbital barrage, eagle airstrike, sentry guns, or equipment. Calling down support needs you to input a set of commands (Up, Right, Down, Down, Right for example for a cluster bomb). Part of the challenge is performing a calldown during a hectic fight.
2. The atmosphere - if you've ever dreamed of being in Starship Troopers versus a wave of bugs, Imperial Guard in Warhammer 40k against impossible odds, Stormtrooper in the Clone Wars saga versus the bots, or the last Resistance versus Skynet, this is the game. No game makes you feel so powerful yet so weak. But when you get a mission done on Helldive with the timer running out, being chased by 5 bile titans as your team is doing laps waiting for extract, fighting down until your ammo is out and you're screaming for more cluster bombs - you'll realize this game is gold.

Other things
1. Friendly Fire - is always on. Given you can call for massive AOE, have access to high explosives and weapons, part of the challenge in a hectic fight is trigger discipline and communication.
2. The movement - you can crouch, slide, dive, and go prone. This sounds basic but when combined with friendly fire avoidance, this becomes key in not getting shot by your teammates trying to shoot that hostile right next to you. You also take less damage when prone.
3. The enemies - right now there are 2 factions that you fight against, bugs and bots. Fighting against bugs feel like playing a totally different game when fighting bots. The game is expected to add 2 more factions.

Finally, the music is great, from the moment you drop down from high orbit to the final extraction theme, it adds a lot into the game.

TLDR: Buy the game. With friends. Get a mic. Have fun.
