The regular AR is garbage compared to the sidearm pistol, I mean seriously if you are playing on controller you might as well use the pistol because you will get a headshot 100% of the time, as for mouse/keyboard players don't even attempt to try against controller players, you will only get angry at the game

edit: Hard isn't actually hard, play the game on death march, get some mods i.e:
Intuitive Fast Travel
Lumen Igni Totus
Convenient Looting Redux
Auto Apply Oils
