Early Access Review
cannot wait for the full release, it's already packed full of content and easily worth the price right now. if everything continues how it is, larian truly knocked this one out the park. the definitive pc dnd experience <3

a musical fever dream. the abstract visuals combined with dreamy soundscapes make for an experience you will not forget. all while reminding us to spread hope and love to each other, whilst not forgetting about ourselves either :)

improves on the already great original game in practically every way possible. art style is fantastic along with the soundtrack which combine to create a truly unnerving atmosphere as you go to explore deeper and deeper into the the psyche of everyone's favourite self-appointed visual novel character to hopefully, make a change for the better :)

i only first played through life is strange over summer this year, i don't know what prompted me to do it. it was always one of those games that i knew existed but just never really looked into. either way, i sat down to play it for the first time and over the next few days proceeded to engulf myself with just playing. the game is not perfect by any means, the graphics are quite buggy sometimes and there are some broken interactions but nothing too bad. the writing is also, of its time let's say, so it leads to some quite amusing quotes. although to me, all of this is just part of the lis charm. you really feel these characters, you go on a journey and come out somewhere different at the end. the atmosphere of the world is also immaculate, from the music to the environment, arcadia bay feels alive. now, when i finished it for the first time, i immediately went and did another playthrough, and then i proceeded to buy all of the other games in the series and played through those too. and now, months later, i am still here at 4am in the morning listening to the soundtrack. if that isn't a sentiment to how much i liked these games i don't know what is. so what i really want to say is, if you haven't played these yet, go in with as little information about the story as you can, and just live through the experience :)

Disco Elysium is a masterfully crafted RPG experience. The brooding, grungy city of Revachol is a fitting microcosm for the broader themes this game is exploring, it is truly a world that feels alive and that is no doubt due to the excellent writing and voice acting which allows us to be transported into its setting.

The actions you take are decided by checks which act like a roll to see if the action is successful. This allows for great replay-ability since you can always start the game again with a completely different build and find the play experience will have completely changed. The game truly gives the player agency over not only how you want to be a detective, but also your characters morality, political alignment and general personality. With branching dialogue options and paths that adapt to the choices you make. No two playthroughs will be exactly the same.

The characters you meet are an eclectic mix and extremely memorable, each intricately written for you to explore their psyche. Not only that, almost every item (especially with high encyclopedia skill) can help to expand the story and presence of the world, Disco Elysium does a brilliant job at making you as the player not feel like the protagonist in the story, which is fantastic for the atmosphere that is created.

This game will make you think a lot about many things long after you play it, there are many themes within waiting for us to uncover and interpret, be prepared to go on a journey of self-discovery, grief and nihilism, to say the least. But the game is so much more than understanding your character itself. It navigates broad systematic issues with socioeconomic and political systems, government, and the people suffering most from its command. Still somehow, in amongst all of these dark themes, the game is actually incredibly comedic, and there are some truly hilarious moments that will stick with you.

Disco Elysium has become one of my favourite games of all time, I cannot wait for my next playthrough. I will remember it for a long time.
